The powder blue is good. It adds life to the bot mode, which would otherwise be...black and white. We've got plenty of that. Its not my favorite color by any means, but I like it on Prowl. In the few hours of playing and photographing him, he's really growing on me. Hopefully, I TFW will let me upload the pictures I took, because some are pretty cool If I didn't have a bunch of wrting homework and a resume to update I'd write a real review, but I'll add to this post later with more thoughts. I do need to set him up to fight Decepticharge
I've just moded my BT Blue Prowl and Alt Prowl, difference it makes so much difference, and looks good too, I cant believe it was really intended to be the other way arround. Prowl has very rapidly gone from being fairly disappointing to excelent in one fell swoop... And the Blue plastic works a lot better in person
Stop breaking all of your transformers! I picked up Prowl this morning, and after transforming Alt. prowl...he's easily my favorite Alt. He looks so much better in person than any pic I've seen of him. I'm not gonna swap his legs...I think they look perfect. Also I have him exactly how the instructions say to transform him, with his knee-guards / bumpers on the side of his legs and he looks way better this way to me.
I tried putting the arms in the tabs. When I did I couldn't seem to get the hood to close properly even without the engine so I use them now. Besides even when trying to get the arms under the tabs they seemed too fragile and I didn't wanna try it again.
More Prowl thoughts: -Crappy (less than average) car mode paint apps. Some chippy/blotchy areas in corners bumpier than I'd like in the rear/hood white areas, etc. -Mirrors feel weak. -The leg doors feel flimsy, don't close well. -Mine doesn't have the "brillo pad" like pattern of scratches on the hood and windsheild, like my Shockblast and Sideswipe have, but there is a half in long, deep scratch on the windsheild, as well as a small dot of white over spray. Those are some negatives, but they don't really bother me. The bot mode has no cosmetic problems, aside from the ones that remain visible from the car mode. -Great arms. Several ball joints, several swivles. They're light, as are his weapons, so he's easy to point. Very well proportioned, if a little thin. They just need a bicep swivel, but as is, they're as good as the mustangs arms, maybe better. -Great legs, AFTER mod. Kind of a strange double knee joint, but he's got a good 105-110 degree range at the need. Thigh swivels. He's got good sized feet, and nice ankle articulation. I've got a slightly loose left ankle, but no big deal. Knee is a tad high on the leg, but not like the S2000/Viper. -Hood and roof fold into torso tightly, moreso than pictures would have had me believe. This is very good, makes him look trim, athletic. -Tight joints all around -Waist swivel! -Nice transformation, all around. Highly recomended. He's become a favorite, right up with Grimlock and Ravage.
I GOT HIM LASTNIGHT!!! and I like him alot, the only down side i have is his gun, it just.. it doesnt look like a gun prowl would use, however the baton looks cool in his hand, or better yet in its spot on his leg.
He does look much better in person than in photos. He looks very much like a cop wearing riot armor. He's got very different proportions than the other alternators (who tend to have very exaggerated forearms and feet - which is not a bad thing). Prowl on the other hand has very "human" proportions, and the larger parts (legs chest) give the impression of armor more than actually being "part" of him. He also has a very classic diaclone type look to him! All in all there is still not a single alternator I own (and I have all released so far) that I don't like!
I stumbled upon him yesterday and was quite pleased, especially after the leg mod. The only real complaint I have is that he's got an Autobot symbol on his hood that is not hidden in alt mode. I was really impressed that in the earlier Alternators all faction symbols were hidden during transformation (not counting the ones on the license plates). For me, that little extra detail added a new level to the whole "robots in disguise" gimmick. Nevertheless, he makes a fine addition to my Alternator collection.
Sideswipe. Tracks or Swerve, depending on who you put the flames sticker on. But yeah, it does seem kind of unnecessary on Prowl's hood. They could've used the shoulders for the insignia like the BT version did. Just having the police badge icon on the hood would have been enough to meet the G1 homage.
Ditto on the leg mod. I like it so much better not having to see that terrible baby blue as much. Now if only they would have left the baby blue off the gun/engine...
I've been looking forward to Prowl ever since I saw the resin protos when they were first made public. I watched as everyone said, "He's fat" or "His chest is too big" or other derisive comments. And yet, I stayed quiet and waited patiently. I finally picked up my Alt. Prowl today. I'm going to say, right off the bat, I bet the BT Police Prowl is better. However, this guy has lived up to all of my expectations. In fact, I was worried that he might not even have a part of his transformation that was tricky to get right! But no, his arms solved that for me. Just wish the doors/arms were attached a bit more securely. If done right, they won't pop off, but if they do, they're easy to pop back on, like Grimlock. Prowl, however, is MUCH easier to transform without popping anything off, than Grimlock is. Prowl may very well be my new favorite alt. I won't say anything for certain, as he's a brand new toy, and it may just be the new-toy-syndrome... but he's damn awesome. Now, having said that, let's talk about the leg-swap mod. If you're just standing him up and not trying to pose him, I think the official bot looks just a smidgen better than if you do the leg swap. I'll tell you why in a minute. If you want any kind of reasonable articulation in the knees, however, you MUST do the leg swap. Otherwise, you're depending ENTIRELY on the hip and ankle joints. Without the legswap, Prowl has about as much knee articulation as Sideswipe. Now, apply the legswap mod. It's easy. There's 4 screws on the insides of the legs. Take them out (taking them out is the hardest part... trust me, I may have blisters tomorrow from the screwdriver I used). Remove each leg. Rotate each leg 180 degrees. Swap legs. Re-insert screws. If you need more detailed instructions (It really is super-easy for a non-kitbasher like me... once you can get the screws out), I'm sure there's something on it in the Kitbash and/or toyark thread. ANYWAY... Prowls legs lose 2 cool points in this mode for two reasons. 1: You can see through his left shin. 2: You can see through his right shin. Other than that, he looks as awesome as he does without the legswap. Different, yes... and definately more like Grimlock/Wheeljack - if you don't like the Mustangs' bot modes, you probably won't like this - but still very cool looking. I really love this guy. Even if Silverstreak again takes my #1 alt spot, Prowl will definately stay in the top 3, at the VERY least. I really haven't been this excited about an alternator since... geez. Probably Shockblast. And when I got SHockblast, I had still never seen Meister around. My one gripe? His face sculpt. Not the headsculpt - that's freakin' awesome. The face, though. He's smiling. Sure, he's an Autobot. He's a good guy. But... he's A) A warrior and B) A cop. What does he have to smile about? It just makes his face look a little less serious than it feels like it should. Oh. About the baby blue on him. It looks terrible in pictures... but in person, really, it's not that bad. I'd still prefer grey, but... it works acceptably well. Prowl gets a 9.5/10 from me. Minus 0.5 points for the "happy face!"...
I want to see pictures of this happy face. My Prowl looks like he's going to pull your nose out your a-hole.
Same here, mine ain't smilin'. lol Definitely looks like one badass Autobot. As AutobotEngineer said posted earlier, his car mode paint apps are really shoddy. Rough and slightly uneven on some parts where the white meets the black..especially around the windows. Upper bodyline on the rear quarter panel feels rough or bumpy and seems like it's going to flake off or somethin. That's just on one side of the car, though. Other than that, I love my Prowl. He was my favorite Autobot car as a kid, and I love the G1 homage in this toy.
Pick up a Prowl at my local Toys'R'Us today. I will admit I had a big problem with this character being Prowl. I didn't feel it held to the transformation of the original gee wun. Seemed more like Red Alert or Streetwise. So, I was pissed. (Still am over that fiasco a bit) However this is a very good bot, after the leg swap. The transformation out of packaged form seems a lot like Red ALert. The fact that this toy and Red Alert were made at the same time probably means that something got mixed up. (Ill bet money on it) Aheam.... lacking the rant over that, This is a very good bot. Very much a nice transformation. But i feel there are a few small things they could have done better. 1. The head needs more swivel to it! He can look left and right. Not UP? ahh.... 2. What's up with the autobot symbol being visible in bot mode? Did we just suddenly decide we are no longer robots in disguise? 3. What is up with the legs? They don't bend the right way. And when you mod them they bend perfectly. Which monkey is letting stuff like this slide? 4. Does the gun look like it's going limp to you huys too? Maybe we should send Prowl some High Octane Viagra. Now don't want you to feel this is all negative. Aside from the rant and those four points I like him. I actually like him. The light blue is tastefully done and a bit more asethetically pleasing to the eye that the old grey choice. The Head scult Is great for Prowl. and the paint scheme is definately Prowl! I wish the arms could be a bit more beefy, but they are fully articulated, and thats enough. The clear red batton is a awesome little idea. Over all, good riot gear look, they just need to detach his roof/windsheild and make it a shield for the full effect. Sounds like another mod idea.
Got mine last night. And after pressing so slightly on the driver side mirror to open the door, I saw it just flip off. Now I gotta go look for the mirror which is somewhere in my car. *grumbles*
Gah, that sucks King Starscream. I know I didn't put any pressure on the mirrors for fear of breakage, just popped the doors from the bottom. It's a pity this is such a problem.
Ok, soo for the leg mod, all I do is unscrew the three screws on his legs. What type of screw driver do I need for the smaller screws?
