So... I'm just curious... why don't more people post on ATT anymore? There are still many of veteran users there and we could use some new perspectives.

    Anyone interested in going back?

Yes. Alt.toys.transformers is still around. So are many other newsgroups. In my experience they've been much more enjoyable than web forums, but everyone's experience is different.

I just think people should give ATT a try. Post there a few times and see how it goes. No harm in that.

Wow, I had no idea that ATT was still active! Last time I checked (about the time of the UT, I think), it was a ghost town.

According tfwiki, it's ancient. Or to put it simply, who would who rather hang out with, the old Jetfireish newsgroup or the somehwat young Ironhideish forum?

Nope. Horrible memories from that place, some guys had ridiculous sense of entitlement. Good thing all the obnoxious people migrated to the other forum with the all spark.

I started with alt.toys.transformers back in the day when AOL opened a gateway to the Internet. I haven't used either service in many years. Funny, what I remember most from alt.toys.transformers. Some con artists asking for money to reporduce an original, and more violent copy of the Transformers 86 Movie in 35 MM. However, the con artists belittled anyone asking for proof.

    I traded mine.

Smokescreen was traded for an Alt Meister and something else (that I can't remember), which I both sold, making twice what I spent on buying Smokescreen in the first place...
Grimlock was traded for HA Jazz. Totally worth it.
Tracks was traded for a HA Barricade which I just sold for $60.

I remember having another ALT at some point but...I don't remember what it was, unfortunately. I didn't like how HARD they were to transform. I don't like simpletons like say...Energon Shockblast when it comes to transformation, but these guys challenged me more than...ROTF Mixmaster. Mixmaster has a million steps, but they plug in nicely. Smokescreen never did in vehicle mode. He was a pain forever.

I think they're more "Ironhide-ish" than we are.

And I think I'd rather talk to an Ironhide instead of a hardcore Bay fan who's never read a TF comic and doesn't know what Alternators were.

    ...Sarcasm?

I haven't accessed a newsgroup since... 2005? It's been a few years since I had an ISP with an NNTP server, and I never liked trying to navigate through Google Groups.

Sorta off topic but can someone briefly explain the difference between modern and out dated internet? Also can it be accessed by an ordinary browser such as Firefox?

It can still be accessed. It just means the website in terms of functionality is way behind the times.

Unless they've made improvements recently, Usenet is the caveman of cyberspace. No images, bare bones text (not even simple things like bold or italics, much less html), and since it comes through email the posts and replies aren't neatly organized like they are on newer sites. Basically, open Notepad and imagine doing all your communicating with that.

At one time you could pull up all of the old newsgroup posts through google. The ATT archive can be fun to read through and see what TF fandom was like at the beginning...so much has changed, and so much is EXACTLY THE SAME.

Usenet has (d)evolved into piracy. The only action is binary usegroups, where you can download movies, TV shows, porn, mp3s, comics, software, etc etc. It's VERY active and a bastion for pirates as it is not monitored by the MPAA/RIAA like torrents are.

Actual conversation groups have pretty much died, such as alt.toys.transformers.

That's pretty much the only thing ATT has going for it anymore. I guess if you ever wanted to "get" the inside joke when BW Megatron orders his computer to perform an "ATT override," you might want to give it a look. Sadly, the rest of the world moved on to better, more user-friendly message boards. I will never give up my avatar!

In its defense, I did post to ATT and ATTCM once upon a time. Had some interesting conversations and it was pretty cool for the time.

I thought all the founders and mods took off long ago anyway. Anyone know?

    *edit*

And after a quick look at the current state of ATT, it appears there's more drama there than I care for anyway. Ultra Magnotron, can I interest you in a nice parking spot here at TFW? ;)

I wouldn't say "devolved" since its been that way for a very long time.

I was on ATT as well but being so long ago I don't even know what username or email I used. I had originally connected to it through HyperTerminal and through a "Library" computer. By "Library" I'm not talking about a computer AT the library... idk what it was but that's the name I remember it having. It was on the network after you dial in with HyperTerminal in my area at the time.
