So we collect Transformers. We don't collect model cars or trains or planes, we collect robots that on occasion like to pop out a vehicle mode in a bind. But ultimately I think it's safe to say we all prefer bot mode to alt mode as a general rule. When people post collections, every rarely are more than a few figures displayed in alt mode, save for non-vehicle bots like dinobots. I'm the same. I want to see my robots. I can see enough damn cars every day, but only in my collection and in my twisted imagination do I see giant talking semi-humanoid hunks of metal. But this thread is about alt modes, specifically what figures you prefer in alt mode. I virtually never display in alt mode, even when I really like the alt mode. Seekers are the perfect example. The MP seekers have stunning jet modes, but still, on the shelves I'm gonna be looking at bots. I had my first experience today finding an alt mode I preferred to bot mode. GDO Scout Brawl. I transformed him a few times when I first got him, then he went into bot mode to stay. Today, I took him to work to fiddle with and found myself leaving him in alt mode. I transformed him back a few times, but really with the intention of transforming back to alt mode. Not only is the transformation on the figure from bot to alt brilliant, but the alt mode is just damn sexy. What ultimately sealed the deal was discovering how much I can do with the gun. And that's the problem with most alt modes, you can't really do anything in the way of posing. But GDO Brawl man, that turret pivots and swivels and the body is such a nice solid burly piece, that I think he's going to be staying in alt mode for quite some time. So what figures do you have that you prefer their alt modes over their bot modes?
All the Camaro Bumblebees from the first movie, actually most of the Bayverse vehicles, especially the G1 decos like Jazz and Starscream. G1 Tracks, nothing wrong with his bot mode but I love Corvette Stingrays. RID Sideswipe and Sunstreaker from TFCC MP-4 Prime with trailer G1 Optimus Prime with trailer
This pretty much is what I like: [/IMG] Generation One* and Alternators/Binal Tech really capture what I like to see in alt modes: real-world vehicles made into fictional toys. I'd almost put movie toys here too, but I don't enjoy many of the robot modes as much. Sure, this is an alt mode threadf, but I still like my TFs to be cool in both modes. For me, it's always about the alt mode first. As I've said, I typically prefer real world vehicles to most other things. *Gotta exclude the Minibots from this, as the G1 Minibots are toys of toy cars, despite the cartoon placing them into fiction as real world cars and trucks.
Well, the only ones I display in vehicle modes are... ROTF Ice Cream Twins GDO Motormaster Botshots Skywarp (Standing up on the rear of the jet) There are a few more toys I'm wanting primarily for the alt mode. HFTD Hubcap, ROTF Mixmaster, ROTF Divebomb to name the main ones. Hupcap and Divebomb have good robot modes. Mixmaster... I just love how he looks in the mixer mode. I can't decide if I like my KM-03 in robot or boat, but I'm leaning toward bot. The little Mini-Cyclops is definitely staying in sub mode though. I love subs. There were some others, but I can't remember to be honest.
I'm getting my Cyclops in this week and I already anticipate trouble deciding between alt and bot for main display. It's one of the few figures I look at and say I want 2 so I can display both, because both look very impressive in pictures. I'm eager to see how those opinions translate once I have it in hand.
I second the vote for the twins in Ice Cream Truck mode. Mostly because they look hideous in their robot modes, but also mostly because ICE CREAM TRUCK. I do love ROTF Voyager Megatron's space tank mode. That thing is baller. My favorite, though, might be FOC Shockwave's space cruiser alt mode.
WTF double post sorry i will edit this down the track to include something edit:2 page to first post.... should of picked a better pic will update that as well...
I used to have an MP-04 (Optimus+trailer) that stayed in alt mode 99% of the time with an MP-01 that stood right by him, on the shelf! As for now? -Skids/Mudflap stay in ICT mode (GREAT, unique alt mode!) -Ejector is almost always in Toaster mode -Ransack and Divebomb... Bi-Planes, ENOUGH SAID! -TFPrime Cliffjumper is in his badass alt. mode more than not -TFPrime Vehicon. Rarely do I buy duplicates of a figure. BUT when you have an alt mode THIS cool and a great bot mode. Yeah. One of my Vehicons is ALWAYS in alt. mode!
SQ7 said it all for me. I also love displaying my Optimus Primes in alt mode. Yeah if the alt mode sucks ass, I wouldn't buy it. Not to say that I prefer alt mode all together. A realistic looking alt mode is a huge plus but as I have discovered movie toys subpar leader class and Human alliance, even with all it's glorious licensing just doesn't do it for me. Bot mode has to be equally as accurate.
There's always at least one MP Seeker in jet mode. Hot Rod [MP] cycles through transformations pretty often, and so does at least either Alternity Cliffjumper or Bumblebee. Though to be honest, I never favour robot mode over alt mode, each figure I have has a healthy transformation cycle unless they are stored away.
There are rare occasions where I prefer the alt mode over the bot mode. Examples- Armada Jetfire. Really dislike the bot mode, but the shuttle is pretty cool. Armada Prime (the big one). Horrible bot mode, beastly alt mode. BW Longrack and MachKick. Bot modes look wonky, but the beast modes look great. Prime Vehicon and HftD Terradive are figures I have multiples of just so I can have them in alt mode and bot mode on the shelf. Easily two of my favorite figures ever.
Sorry, bud! My intention was certainly for no one to second guess themselves On the up side of things, maybe it's still on the cheap end of BTs? It's been years since I've shopped for one, but BT Tracks is one of the easier BTs to get.
