Had the unfortunate task of going out and get something from Walmart for my folks, and I found the original Godzilla Vs King Kong for $3. Looks like I've got some entertainment for tonight!

I know this is how gorillas' posture, but this Kong was already established to be primarily bipedal with a straight pose. He doesn't knuckle-walk like regular gorillas so seeing his back lean that way looks off.

 

Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster 9.5/10
English Subtitles

I finally got around to watching this with subtitles instead of the dub. Why didn't I do it sooner? It's so much better. It feels like the English version cut a lot of scenes and the English translation of Mothra's song is cringey as f*ck. I'm glad they didn't do that here. The dialog is infinitely better here, and the humans were made better because of it. The final fight is still amazing. I think it's my favorite Showa movie because it's the one I keep coming back to. I loved seeing Mothra, Rodan and Godzilla work together. I wish KOTM did that.

Personally I think it should've ended here:
It should've just faded to black here. I think the final three minutes are unnecessary. But I still love this movie.

 

Hold up, did you watch ALL of the movies dubbed previously? Because if so, no wonder you hated them.

I have too much nostalgia for the dubbed versions to hate on them. And specific ones at that.

The new Godzilla VS Sea Monster BLU Ray has some weird dub on it, it didn't have the VHS dub I knew and loved. Luckily the VHS version is floating online somewhere.

I'd say the original subbed King Kong Vs Godzilla might be the superior version, despite my nostalgia. US editors certainly chopped up the story a bit.

Personally I think they both have an equal shot.

 

I suppose if Kong can dodge really well. And since we're on a Transformers board: Giant monkey inferior. Godzilla superior.

English Dub

If you're wondering why I watch the English dub. It's because of Don Frye, He's my favorite human in the movie.

This was much better then I remember. All of the fights (aside from Zilla's) were great. Godzilla himself looked awesome. (Damn it, NECA.) I do think the movie is too long but that's not my biggest issue. My biggest issue is the music. It definitely had some great music, Final wars theme, Gigan's awakening, Godzilla vs Kumonga and a few others. But a lot of the music was...eh. The human fights did feel a bit like a Matrix rip off. The humans also weren't as bad as I remember. I swear Masahiro Matsuoka looks like a Japanese Keanu Reeves. I also liked the Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla theme cameo. I really like the English dub of the Controller's voice, He did such a great job, and that laugh was really well done. Douglas Gordon was such a badass in this movie. Where's my S.H. Monsterarts Douglas Gordon?

 

Funny. I rated that a 4.5 (Final Wars). Don Frye was hilarious in the movie, but this wasn't a good movie. The CGI was cheesy AF. The plot was subpar. The acting was bad. I saw it again with the mindset that this was a train-wreck and found it to be much more humorous and entertaining that way. I will give it one thing though: I do recognize that this was a nod to Godzilla and all the years of entertainment it brought us. I just wished they did a better job conveying it.

Didn't know Invasion of the Astro-Monster/Godzilla vs Monster Zero/Giant Monster War was going to be called "King Ghidorah vs Godzilla", which is odd because Godzilla is now the good guy but they didn't title it "Godzilla vs King Ghidorah" unlike "King Kong vs Godzilla" and "Mothra vs Godzilla" when he was the bad guy thus his name came second.

 

So, I just realized that my Showa Criterion Collection disk 8 has the Japanes version of King Kong vs Godzilla on it. I had no idea that was included in the set...

 

  That was like one of the biggest highlights when it came to why people should be buying that set.
