I do wonder...After Godzilla vs Kong, how is the future of this 'Monsterverse' going to play out? I'm not entirely up to speed on how Toho plans to handle rights and licensing in the next few years.

    I've had similar concerns.

After Godzilla Vs. Kong, who will be the antagonist in the 3rd Legendary Godzilla film?

    Mechagodzilla?

I really hope that both Mechagodzilla and Mecha Kong might be in the film, it something really cool, or just have either Space Godzilla, Destroyah, or ever Battra.

I hope the next enemy monsters post-Kong are done in groups per film. Multiple enemy monsters for Godzilla/Rodan/Mothra/?Kong? to fight:

    Post-Kong Sequel #1 ENEMY monsters: mind-controlled monsters
    Ebirah (small-level enemy support monster)
    Kumonga (small-level enemy support monster)
Kamacuras Mantises (small-level enemy support infantry)

    Gabara (medium-level enemy support monster)
    Varan (medium-level enemy support monster)
Megaguirus (medium-level enemy support monster & infantry)

    Titanosaurus (large-level enemy support monster)
    Destroyah (large/medium/&small-level enemy support monster/infantry)
Biollante (BIG BAD ^infects the above monsters with mind-controlling spores^)

FINAL BOSS---Biollante-zilla (tries to mimic and "become" Godzilla in an attempt to defeat him ala Orga/Space Godzilla)

Post-Kong Sequel #2 ENEMY monsters: aliens, cyborgs, & robots

    Megalon~Pre-cyborg (large-level enemy support monster)
    Gigan~Pre-Cyborg (large-level main monster)

    Megalon~cyborg/repaired (large-level enemy support monster)
    Gigan~cyborgh/resurrected (throwback to Final Wars)

    FINAL BOSS---Mecha-Godzilla (surprise final enemy)

Post-Kong Sequel #1 supporting HERO monsters:
    Anguirus
    Baragon
    Manda

Post-Kong Sequel #2 supporting HERO monsters:

Battra (for post-kong film # 2 because don't need another Mothra type so soon)
    King Caesar
Jet Jaguar (I don't know how they'd do this? Stolen Alien tech?)

From what I read, TOHO plans to start making Godzilla Movies again when the film rights revert back to them in 2021. Godzilla vs Kong likely the last Legendary Monsterverse Movie since Godzilla will be off limits to them.

My guess is Kong will be the one who comes out on top in the event they want to continue making more US Kaiju movies.

If that is the case, then they’re setting an impossibly high bar for TOHO to reach. And I love it.

The MonsterVerse could just end after GvKK. I don't think it'd be a bad thing either. Better than overstaying its welcome.

It wouldn't be much of a MonsterVerse if it did that though. I mean, four movies doesn't sound great. I'd say let it go for about 10 movies and then call it good.

Seems Legendary could strike a deal to use Godzilla even if other Toho monsters are off limits.

Legendary at least has some options I guess:
    - Toho renegotiates the rights to their kaiju, but they're still off-limits for a few years in the process + while Toho starts their Japanese film universe.
    - During this period Kong takes center stage and they make more sequels with him, along with more entirely new monsters.
    - Alternatively they get the rights to more kaiju/Japanese monster media like Gamera/Ultraman/etc. and just go nuts.

I just know for sure that Godzilla at least is gonna be on hiatus after GvKK regardless. They have their deal in place and Toho could totally be like "ok nevermind you guys can have your movies too while we make ours", but it's gonna take awhile to figure things out.

Maybe they could negotiate a scheduled. Legendary can only release a Godzilla movie every 2 years. That lets Toho put out their own the years Legendary takes off. Godzilla every year but never too many to overcrowd the market.

Correct me if necessary but aren't the Netflix anime Godzilla movies made by Toho, and considered part of the franchise with the other 30+ movies? What's this talk of the rights going back to Toho if they're already making Godzilla films?

Toho could always make a deal with Legendary that should both Godzilla KOTM and Godzilla vs Kong be massive successes they can each have a year for their set of films or two to not overcrowd the other. The Monsterverse has a lot of potential that to end it now would be a waste especially since Legendary could always use Warner Brother's own library of monsters like Gwangi,Them or the Beast from the 20,000 fathoms to be in the Monsterverse. I mean they can even bring back the King Kong vs Frankenstein idea for the Kong sequel.

Also, Toho just made a live action Godzilla movie a year and a half ago. Toho licensing Godzilla to Legendary doesn't mean they gave up the rights to do their own Godzilla movies.

First titbit of Godzilla vs Kong promotion. If that sign is anywhere close to accurate, Kong really hit that growth spurt like an anvil!
