One of my favorite things about the Godzilla fandom is that no one disparages anyone for saying G14 (or any movie really) is their favorite.

Godzilla (2014) is one of, like, three Godzilla films that I like. Seeing it attracted me to watch other films (and admittedly jump the gun because I assumed that I would enjoy the others.) Ironically, one of the others features the monsters featured here... I think it was named Ghidorah but can't remember. (The wacky Godzilla vs. Rodan fight is what charmed me there.)

This next one looks like a generic action flick like Kong: Skull Island though. I guess Rodan looks damn impressive wiping out that town, but it doesn't enter that creepiness that the 2014 movie did. Ghidorah peering at that girl did get close, however. Don't even enjoy the Godzilla redesign. The nubby tail looks less impressive and the large regular spines seem less natural, which ironically makes him seem less intimidating — or Lovecraftian. The possibility of a wacked out Godzilla vs. Rodan remake is still drawing me in...

Heres a pretty good frame-by-frame deconstruction of the trailer.

You're definitely thinking of Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Ghidorah's first (and, if I might be so bold, only truly great) appearance. It featured Godzilla and Rodan in a video game boss style game of tennis with a rock while Mothra tried desperately for them to act like they weren't five.

I love the glowing pattern of the new back plates, but the loss of their rocky shape is definitely my least favorite part of the redesign. It looked so great underwater, like he was carrying a deep sea vent on his back. I imagine it will grow on my eventually though. I think I'll need to track down one of the 2014 NECA figures for "normal" Goji, and then get the atomic breath version of this one for his powered up phase.

Yeah, I really don’t like the Godzilla redesign. His 2014 look was perfect.

He looks stiff like he can’t move most of his body.... kinda like a guy in a suit.

I like both G'14 and KOTM designs, but yeah, I prefer G'14.

But I'm still confused by the folks complaining about human focus and monster screentime...As well as the few goons I've seen get mad about supposed politics in the movie? I don't get it, it's like some folks just look for things to be mad about.

Finally saw the trailer. This is what you get when monsters awaken from the earth, they turn it into a bloody arena and a struggle for dominance.

The VFX look outstanding, motion-capture helps in bringing these creatures to life as never before. Mothra looks pretty, Rodan looks fearsome, Ghidorah looks like a space abomination, and while the big G himself looks the same as before I'm pumped for his action sequences. To see him move fast was a shock and delight.

Kaiju battle royale. That's enough reason to see it on the big screen.

I mean they could just sit down and talk it out with tea and scones. Maybe get to the root of the problem, help Ghidorah come to terms with why he lashes out at everyone.

Another new picture of big G. Also, Dougherty tells Total Film. He thinks Gareth Edwards had a lot of fun playing cat-and-mouse and he loves the build up. But they are definitely taking the gloves off for this film. No holding back.

If the Gareth movie had a slow build and deliberate pace like the original 1954 Godzilla, the new trailer makes the next movie look like a Godzilla Wars remake.

But on the other hand, the trailer also makes it feel like Legendary are taking the (hopefully friendly) competition with Toho seriously, which I like. Other than the lack of practical effects, the new movie looks like they are trying to out-Toho Toho.

Which is totally fair. It's a trick that only works once, and it needs to be in the first movie if you're going to do it at all. Obviously not everyone appreciated it, but I think these two movies will make excellent companion pieces for it.

It's difficult to believe some of these screenshots are real and not concept art. I'm giving myself until Sunday. If I don't see the trailer at Aquaman I'm gonna just pull it up.

Once again, each opponent having a mother named Martha ruins a city.

Just noticed; if you look closely at that shot of Mothra diving down, you can just about glimpse Rodan flying next to her.

What I have watched this week is Godzilla vs the Smog Monster, which I hope for its own sake is the most 70's Godzilla movie ever. It would probably be a fantastic movie if it didn't have multiple disco dance breaks, or if the two main fight scenes weren't in the dark, between two primarily black creatures. The main theme is pretty bad too, if I'm being honest.

Still not bad, it's just not a good enough movie for the baddie in it.
