That image of him looks like it's part of some freakish cereal advertisement ("Hey, kids!!!"). Just add a bowl of cereal at the bottom with a spoon in it and we're set.

With the exception of the eyes and overly long tail, I like the design they've come up with. That said, that trailer... is a real... stinker. I really hope that it's not a good representation of the movie itself. Otherwise... I'm really starting to think Toho should just give the franchise over to Legendary.

The face shot we get in the trailer looks so much better than this.

It does, after all this is just a cardboard movie advertisement with a few parts layered over the others to evoke a sort of 3D effect. It's not really a screenshot or a poster.

    Cool Godzilla Thread!

    Wow cool Godzilla thread.

You know I've browsed TFW2005 since 2007 and never even notice this and that's pretty cool.

I freaking love Godzilla. He's my favorite fictional character ever can't wait to get started here. I have a bunch of Godzilla Movies both on DVD and Blu-Ray.

^^^Welcome to the thread. My kids have been huge Godzilla fans since I showed them all the old movies about 3 years ago. They are looking forward to seeing the new one. Probably be another year before it gets a U.S. DVD release though.

That's a cool review and pretty spot on. Godzilla 1998 was another film company trying to imitate what they thought people liked about Jurassic Park and getting it completely wrong.

I just read reactions to the Attack on Titan movies, and I'm suddenly dreading this movie. It's made by the same guy and from what we heard he has much the same ideas for this as he had for AOT.

I think only the design for G-Man himself was made by the AoT guy. As far as I know, it's directed by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame.

Shinji Higuchi was apparently on a panel at the Nico Nico Super Conference on the future of CGI and VR, and according to him:

I already did that in my review. Not the color changing things, but the comparison.

He's co-directing it with Shinji Higuchi and writing it.

It might just be the translation, but that's not how I'd like them to explain it. Kinda makes it sound like they just fell back on tokusatsu because they didn't have the time/budget to do CG properly.

They shouldn't feel the need to justify it. You get someone in a Godzilla costume, some super-detailed miniature sets, some miniature pyrotechnics, and you do this as well as technology and budget and artistry will allow. That's how you do Godzilla movies. It may not produce 100% realism, but it's a cool process, and when it's skillfully done, fans are quite happy to suspend disbelief.

When they need to put in CGI, as a last resort, it should be because finances and ingenuity couldn't come up with a way to physically do it.
