Are the aligned novels worth getting if I already have the Covenant of Primus? Is it new material that would add to what I already read?
Exodus and Exiles are pretty decent. Skip the third one, I think called Redemption? I own it and read it once, but really didn't like it. I can't say how worth they are getting, I've read the first two multiple times each and found them engaging, even if Exiles is basically the War for Cybertron game, but done differently. The first half of Exiles is great though, especially the Council bits. Exiles is fun, and I liked reading about the Autobots visiting other planets and it had a lot of interesting plot elements. This is all me though, i know there are a good bit of people who don't like them. And they do have slightly different material in them. I know stuff with the Thirteen is different, like The Fallen actually being evil instead of a tragic figure like in the Covenant.
Same. Some have complained about the continuity errors between each book and also with the show but most of those are very minor and cosmetic which helps me gloss over them. Spoiler The only complaint I have from the third book is how one of the main antagonists was stopped. He had so much promise. jD001
I actually prefer Retribution (the third one). The writing in the first two felt like someone very boring who hasnt got a clue how to connect with children trying to write a story for five year olds. Exiles had some great events in it but the writing takes all the fun out of it. And i agree heartily with your spoiler janeDoe001, i'm still hoping he'll appear in the Lost Light comic someday.
one of the really fun things about retribution is a cameo of a beast hunters figure/upgrade for a character, giving people a in story reason to own that figure
I bought this one 1st because I saw Rodimus was in it and I have no idea who you are talking about, but I hope it doesn't end with me having to buy a new figure!
ooooh, I read about that in the wiki article. I don't remember the toy for it. I'll have to look it up. Thanks.
No problem, it's actually one of the few canon (non toy beast hunters story bios) beast hunters remolds
Novels are really worth getting. I hope they write more. The novels tell of stories and battles that Hasbro could not afford to put on screen, each one would break their yearly budget 5 times over. Get them.
Thanks, I already read exodus and I know what happens in WFC, so I'm skipping to Retribution now and I'm really enjoying it. I wish Kup and Rodimus were in Prime .
Exodus is just a retelling of War For Cybertron. (skip it) Exiles sorta crams some of Fall of Cybertron into the beginning, and the later stuff on Velocitron and Junkion are pretty neat. Retribution, i feel, is the most interesting story of the three, even if it isnt the best written (i liked it just fine) I do wish we had an illustration of Tyrannicron and Hydratron.
I only have exiles left. I loved Retribution, but yeah it was written very well. I feel like it's a fan fic I would find on AO3. Exodus read like a romance novel a lot of drama and angst between Megatron and OP.
Exodus and Retribution are Basically Okay. Exiles is fucking dreadful. Possibly the worst-edited book I've ever read. The characters in a scene will randomly change. Characters will leave a location, but then in the next chapter will never have left. Weapons will switch names between paragraphs. Possibly the most egregious example is when Optimus asks Sideswipe to salvage a ship for a trip through a space bridge, but then changes his mind and has Silverbolt fly him through instead. They do their stuff on the other side of the bridge... and then get back on to the salvaged ship, piloted by Sideswipe to fly back through. On the other side of the space bridge, Sideswipe and the ship have disappeared again. I can only assume nobody actually read the final draft of the book before it was sent to print. Basically it's a load of old nonsense.
