That last scene looks intense. And I agree the graphics look top notch. Nice to see they polished it up in the time it was delayed.

I can't help but feel I didn't watch the same video - the sound of the guns is all wrong and the whole thing looks like a step backward from previous games :(

The pulse rifle is a "close but not quite". The smart gun is totally 100% off. The movement looks slow and laborious, and the main character voicing what the player should be feeling just makes it all seem hollow. I dunno. I love Aliens a lot, and I loved the original AvP games for how they captured the feel of being weak and alone in a hostile environment as a marine, and I'm just not feeling this.

EDIT: The Xenomorphs, too, totally sound wrong. It's like they couldn't get the license to use the original sound clips and tried to make them themselves. It's jarring.

That looks great, but I agree with Quin, the sounds are off. And it's got an awful lot of talking for what could be a really atmospheric, spooky game.

Well they still have time to fix the sound, and each clip was short and out of context, so it is possible that they chose some of the talkiest parts because the rest is too quiet for a hype preview.

Dunno what you guys are on. I think the video looks phoking sweet.

As far as the sounds. The morphs aren't going to ALWAYS sound like the ones in the movie. It would get repetitive, like some older Star Wars games, that only had the original sounds. New sound effects have to be created to give the game it's own expansion of the universe. Some might scream like the ones in the films, while others might have a longer scream, shorter, deeper.

I kinda agree with the guns, but I'm sure that the developers had to add to the sound to make for a 30 second continuous bursts, while the movie only shows them using them in short bursts, so they had to compensate for sounds that didn't exist. I also think that playing this on your TV and sound system might yield different results.

    It looks good to me.
I wonder if having shooting Xenomorphs at such close range will have any detriment on your health. There's one in the video who has bursts of acid blood right in front of the player.
I don't recall but the whole 'acid for blood' thing seems to be largely overlooked as a game mechanic.

It would be so cool if there was some tie in with Prometheus -cool, but probably not possible.

It worked that way in the old PS1/Saturn game. If you shot an alien in close range, you could get hurt. Also if you stepped near one after it was dead.

IIRC the original AVP could kill you outright if you shot an Alien too close to you...

It's been a long time so I am probably wrong, but I don't remember the Alien blood having any effect on you in the Jaguar version.
    Yep, I said 'Jaguar'.

Was that ironic or is he a she? *puzzled*

    edit:
Ah, never mind. After reading the rest I realised it's the dialogue from Aliens ;)

I played the PC game of it, where Xenomorphs ran a million miles an hour and predators could spear heads to the wall.

I actually worked with one of the designers of the PC AVP, he said he hated it. Basically AI couldn't get the aliens to run on walls or ceilings, so they had to script EVERY SINGLE path across the walls and ceilings for the Aliens to follow.

I think I told him he was responsible for me bricking myself many times.

    Edit
Its just because Vasquez is such a double hard bastard Hicks insinuated she could be mistaken for a man.

'Hey Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man?'
    'No, have you?'

'When they said Aliens Vasquez thought they said 'illegal aliens' so she signed up.'
    'Fuck you man!'
    'Anytime anywhere.'

    'Its Hudson sir... he's Hicks.'
    'What is it Private?
'How do I get out of this chikenshit outfit?'

Aliens is probably one of the most quotable films of all time. Except for Total Recall.

'See you at the party Richter!'
