The Pilot still holds up well to this day.
    The first Season was great
The second season was pretty good
The Third season the actor playing Hawk was drunk so often it affected the series and in one episode featuring handicap guest stars, they had more trouble dealing with him than helping out the handicap guest stars.
So the entire team was replaced season 4 and it moved to USA network and they slashed the budget.
This was a pretty bad season and it was cancelled after that season.

They couldn't even afford the helicopter in season 4, all of the footage was recycled.

Airwolf was my favorite show after school back in the 80s!

Season 4 is just as fun as Smokey and the Bandit 3 haha

I also recommend Automan and Street Hawk for 80's tv nostalgia.

I loved Airwolf. I'm actually a little afraid to watch it again, I don't want my adult jaded self shredding it.

Good review -- I'm kind of tempted to get this now.

Also, I appreciate any and all Rick and Morty references, so nice job. :)

I never even heard about these as a kid but got the DVDs last year. Street Hawk was amazing! I can't believe I had never heard of it. Awesome theme and very similar to Knight Rider with the cheesy humor. Automan, on the other hand, I couldn't get through. I'm a huge Tron fan so I loved the effects, and Automan himself was great, but Desi Jr. was so bad, and the the way Automan could do anything he wanted, or his vehicle could do anything, just made it seem like nothing mattered.

I never watched it as a kid, but I think it's aged as well as Magnum PI. Much better than MacGyver, Knight Rider and Fall Guy.

Thanks! JANuary is almost half over. Have you MICHAELed down your VINCENTs? ;)

I loved Airwolf as a kid and have the first season on DVD. I'm afraid to go past that haha. I also have a little remote control helicopter of Airwolf (not officially, but looks exactly the same) that I fly around the room while playing the opening theme music. :lol

There was a Blue Thunder tv series as well. But it wasn't good.

I called all my Jan Michael Vincents, but there are only 8 for all 16 Quadrants. So, I'm a little stressed.

Yep, that sums it up nicely.

One thing I disliked about the first season was that they often played the theme music (I think?) over the action scenes, drowning out the gunfire. That was better on season 2.

But the first two seasons are worth watching. The rest, not really.

Other 80's shows along this line are
Greatest American Hero, Premis is silly but Pilot, 1st season, and most of second are pretty good.
21 Jump Street (1st season or so starred Johnny Depp)
Hardcastle and Mccormick, fun first couple seasons and great theme song
Beauty and the Beast. (Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman)
    Captain Power.

Sweet! You should blast the theme and have it slowly rise up and scare the crap out of people.

Never saw that one, but I saw the movie a loooong time ago. I don't remember anything about it so I'll have to track down a copy and check it out again. It's got Roy Scheider in it so at least there's that.

Sounds like you need a goddamn Jan-Michael Vincent!

Yes! I noticed that too. I was wondering if that was a problem with the sound mixing for the blu-ray. It's really weird, almost feels like an art film when they do that. Glad to hear they fix that in SE2.

I have Greatest American Hero and I'm looking forward to seeing it when I get the time, because I love all Stephen J. Cannell shows. I recently started watching Hardcastle & McCormick again and love it! That car... so gorgeous. I reviewed the pilot here:

The Blue Thunder movie was pretty good, the only thing the TV series has that is interesting is it has a pre-SNL Dana Carvey.
