That is a pathetic 'stop' sign. Looks like someone just spray painted the road. They need the regular verticle red sign. With it just being on the road, they probably won't see it until they are right on top of it & would be going to fast to stop. Pilot was also way too low at that point. There is a fence just past the road. If he hit the SUV, he can close to hitting the fence.
how hard is it to put an Actual Stop sign or some kind of blinking signal there to alert cars to stop. This is clearly the fault of the people in charge of the runway.
Any plane crash that you can walk away from is a good one. Wrong. It's the fault of the guy that ran the stop sign.
This! They're not going to put a stop sign on a 7 foot pole right next to an active runway. That's just asking for a plane's wing to clip the sign. If the driver of the SUV is a local, then they should know there's a stop there, and they should be aware that there might be an aircraft decending and about to land.
This right here. Cars have a limited range of sizes that keep them on the same roads. Airplanes have a wide variety of sizes that means you have to keep all of the potential interference spaces clear.
It doesn't have to be a 7 foot pole. Just high enough so it is easier to see from a greater distance then writing on the road. Put the stop sign farther back & have cars stop before crossing the runway's path. Also surprised the road is that close to the end of the runway. Looks like less then a dozen feet between road and runway. Either way, they sould redesign that section of road. Divert it back beyond the fence away from the runway. Put some sort of verticle warning signs. Maybe even excavate and have the road dip down at that point so cars will be lower compared to the runway.
