Hey all, not sure if this is the first one but a fellow member suggested I post this here. I picked up AoE Galvatron (Along with MP Grimlock and Strafe 2-pack) at Toys R Us in Clifton Park NY. They also had AoE Voyager Hound but I didn't want him. Happy hunting!
He really is a good looking figure. The paint apps (or lackthereof) do not do him justice. I've already seen a number of great customs paint jobs on this guy, he looks amazing afterwards. Congrats on the purchase!
I'm from the Clifton Park area originally. We never got anything first when I lived there! The OP's post should be bronzed or something. ANd to keep it on topic, I got my Galvatron from HTS the other day, and I like the figure a lot. For a shellformer, it's actually a pretty clever design. I don't know how I feel about it as "Galvatron," per se, but I dig the figure.
I grabbed Hound and the other Galvatron from the Clifton Park TRU at ~7:00 last night. I just wish the person opening the cases would learn to use a box-cutter. They keep slashing the tops of the boxes, which us MISB guys don't appreciate.
The figure is definately looks a lot better in hand than he does in pictures. I do agree that he could've used more paint apps. Special thanks to NomadVagabond for pushing me towards posting this find... Got my first news credit
Seriously! First sightings in this part of the country are super-rare. I am happy to have helped. ^_^
I am used to buy through eBay and Amazon (among others) since I am not in the US territory, so I have an address un the US on which my packages are delivered and then sent to me... and I think it is a shame that MP Grimlock is above $130 on eBay since the original price is $80... I would love to buy it but I think the price is very high... anybody can give me a hint on how to get it at his original price? Maybe one of you is a seller on eBay and we can get into an agreement...
I have a stupid question for a Toys R Us employee or anybody that just knows more than me. After this thread went up I jotted down the UPC for Galvatron shown in the picture of the receipt. I was out toy hunting and went to my local Toys R Us and did not see any voyager wave 2 on shelves so I went to an associate and asked if they could please look it up with the UPC to verify if they had any in the back. The guy put the number into the computer and it showed that there should be 2 on the floor, as well as another 7 marked "in transit," which he said meant they were probably already at the store and being offloaded from trucks. I told him that I did a thorough search and that the figures were not on any shelves. He said that the other cases should be offloaded from the trucks within a day or two and I didn't push him to go look in the back room. Two days went by and I called in to the store, explained what I was looking for and asked to please look up by UPC to see if they had made it to shelves. The new associate showed the same inventory in the computer, 2 on the floor, 7 in transit. She was very helpful and asked for the names of the figures and put me on hold for about 5 minutes while she said she checked shelves and the back room. Came back saying the only voyager figures they have are Grimlock and Evasion Mode Optimus. I called another Toys R Us store a little over an hour away, and it was almost the exact situation. "Computer shows we have em in stock." Did a quick check, and "nope, we don't have those figures. So am I missing something here? I was pretty sure that the UPC is specific to each figure, and there is no way that if they have a wave 1 voyager in stock that it would show in stock for the UPC associated with Galvatron. If they were in stock for a day, and bought, would that UPC still show them as in stock? Or are they in the back of the store and the employees just don't know where to look/what to look for? Any insight from veterans of this system would be appreciated. Thanks
I believe TRUs system works very similar to Target's. TRU uses item numbers, and Target uses DPCIs. In the case of TRU, even if you give them the UPC to check, their system will tie it back to the TRU item number. Unfortunately the item number doesn't tell you whether they have a specific figure. It only tells you that they have a certain QTY of that figures class/size (Transformers 4 Generations Voyager). Therefore, while all AOE Voyager figures in W1, and W2, have unique UPCs, TRUs system bundles them all in together with a QTY. The problem with this is that you would not know if they have the specific figure you are looking for unless you actually went to the store, or had an associate check the shelves for you if you were to call them. Using TRU item numbers and QTYs are more useful when the TRU item only points to one unique item, (the case assortment has all the same figures in it). Example is the newly released Evolution Grimlock 2 pack TRU Exclusive. There is only one style of Evo Grimlock 2 pack, and they come 3 to a case. If the QTY were to show 6, naturally you'd expect to see 2 cases of this same figure on the shelf. It doesn't take into account theft or customers hiding product in the store. This would throw their count of course.
