I was over on the review thread for Evasion Mode Optimus Prime and saw someone mentioned the mold being sold in a two pack which I could not find anywhere but what I did find was this.

The Evasion Mode Optimus Prime mold will be repainted in movie accurate colors. I found this image of it on TFWiki.

I also found something I wish they did back in 2007. Though it kinda makes me glad I never managed to pick up two of them just so I could repaint one because my custom would not of looked as good as this does.

I have the original on my shelf. I had intended to pick up a second one so I could repaint it in Prime colors. He looks like Ultra Magnus without his proper colors. I guess I'm not the only one who thought about this. Maybe that's why this time around they gave us a properly colored Optimus BEFORE the Movie accurate version that looks like Ultra Magnus. And maybe that's also why they are now finally giving us this awesome recolor of Protoform Optimus Prime.

I also picked up the newly colored Protoform for my Prime shelf, and except for the "windows" which I find to bee too bright, I think he looks really good. Especially considering the mold is from before the first movie came out. I almost bought the original a couple times, but the Takara silver version looked so much better so I held out. Glad I did.

As for whether or not he's "properly" colored now is up for debate - it stands to reason that a Protoform, ie. pre-formed does not have any color until it fashions its alt mode. On the other hand, any sort of continuity from Cyberton would have had him coming down already skinned. Yet another hole in the Transformers universe...

By "properly" I mean actually having his usual Red and Blue colors rather than looking like Ultra Magnus.

I think the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime could look better... the production photos actually do look better than what we actually got. Mainly his upper arms which were suppose to be red and silver/grey and instead we got solid blue. But I plan to paint a few bits on him to make it look better. Having to add a few extra paint applications myself is a lot better than having to repaint the entire figure and he still looks like Optimus Prime even if you don't customize him. Either way it's far better than being stuck with an Ultra Magnus that Micheal Bay for some reason thinks is the same character as Optimus Prime. (Probably because he looked at the original toy and went, it's a repaint so they must be the same guy. That means I can make him white!)

I dunno, I always thought that Ultra Magnus was a big blue and red bulky big guy. But then again, ever since the Seekers all came out at once the fandom has had this weird existential obsession where paint job = identity.

I absolutely promise you that Michael Bay has never confused Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime. I'd be pleasantly surprised if he knew that Magnus had a core robot that shared a mold with Optimus, considering that that is trivia outside of the collecting community.
