So now you can get loose figures in AFA acrylic display cases? This is an awesome way of displaying your figures without them getting dusty! Wish I could afford this Jetfire and mount it on the wall! Vintage G1 Transformers Jetfire AFA Archival Custom - eBay (item 230510725018 end time Sep-10-10 22:58:50 PDT) I thought they only did this treatment to those that have mint condition original boxes. Never realized you could do this to loose figures! Seen quite a few other figures like this as well.
The display case is a custom, it even says it in the title of the auction. I have no idea if AFA will do this for a loose figure or not.
Ouch.... 750? good luck to that guy. I'm not sure what the motivation behind getting loose figures graded is (AFA does grade loose but this is not it). If you want a set up like that, go to hobby lobby and buy a nice case lol. 15 dollars!
I know AFA will grade a loose figure I just didn't know what the situation was with regards to putting them in an archival display case.
I just think it would be a cool way to mount them on walls for display. I wonder if anybody has done it that way.
Nah, he says it's AFA 80. You can also see the edge of the AFA label in the lower left of the image. He probably just means that AFA custom-made the case for the toy when they graded it. AFA does grade loose figures, as they have done here, but it seems kind of stupid to me, personally.
This is how I've heard it: AFA has been grading loose GI Joes and Star Wars figures for years because it's easy to see when they're complete, whereas G1 Transformers usually have stickers and other inserts that make completeness less straightforward. Apparently AFA finally made a decision on what a "complete" Transformer is and are now willing to grade them loose.
yeah, I really don't know either Auto Morph. Seems kind of weird... I can understand paying 1000+ for a MISB AFA graded transformer. What I can't understand is paying that much for a loose transformer lol. G1 1985 JETFIRE ? AFA 85 NM+ ? w/Box and inserts - eBay (item 190352597426 end time Sep-20-10 16:20:33 PDT) I'm sure somebody does Marcatron. I'd get them Custom made somewhere however.. seems like a cool idea. Not 750 dollars cool but i'd buy one for 50 .
Yea just thinking. I'm very happy with the Jetfire I've got and I don't need another one...........yet.
It saddens me that loose AFA grading is apparently encouraging people to separate a mint unused toy from its box, like in that auction. How absurd.
The original box was probably thrashed. I would have just upgraded to a nicer box. In most cases, a minty box is tougher to find than an unused toy. We haven't seen G1 Transformers on rough beater cards and boxes being opened and graded by AFA for the "Uncirculated" grade designation YET. AFA does a great job with the loose custom cases in my opinion, but I am sure they are costly.
My goodness! The box on that auction is much, much worse than what I've. But I'm hankering after the Unused plane & everything else... What a turn of event.
I don't know why we all didn't pitch in and buy that MISB X3 (4?) jetfires from last month. I think it averaged out to about 800 a person, which would of been a sweet deal.
I dunno about you boys here but USD $800 sounds sinful enough to me, especially for a Jetfire. TFSource have one Unused piece (exactly what I'm looking for) up at USD $400 but got sold fast before I get to look/drool at it.
