AFA is probably the bestest thing ever to happen to toy collecting. I dont see how anyone would ever not want to case everything they have so it stays pristine and minty fresh like it just strolled out of the factory. I wonder why people dont go out and sell off every loose figure they have so they could buy one or two reasonably priced AFA Transformers?
I only wish more things in my life could be graded and preserved, imagine the ease of having a relationship graded a high end 85, then having it cased so the love lingers?
I look forward to the future thrivitization of AFA. Touching toys is so gross. Acrylic is my toy collecting condom, protecting my super duper cool toys from dirty little prying hands. Ewww.
Not a day goes by that I dont get up and literally sing the letters A-F-A in operatic verse.
Im sure most of you agree so feel free to engage in the fest d'amour pour AFA!

Some people don't think adults should collect toys, to each their own. I am not going to judge anyone who loves AFA, or hates it. Everyone has different things they enjoy in life and if that is what you like, that is your choice.

There are a couple of reasons...

    1. I cannot play with something that is encased in something that i'm not supposed to open.

    2. The AFA companies can and have been duped. Just because it looks authentic doesn't mean it is. There has been several cases where KO's were authenticated as originals or something was opened and messed with but they authenticated it as unopened.

    3. Just because they authenticate something doesn't mean they actually know anything about the item it's self and may authenticate it improperly.

Your trusting some random company that claims it knows stuff even though there is no actual proof that they know what they are talking about. Do you honestly believe that the AFA company has EVERY Transformer in their original case in mint condition that they bought originally from the store it's self? What do they use for references to authenticate these things if they don't? Experience? Even the most experienced people can be fooled. It just takes the proper con artist with the proper tools and preparation.

However, to each their own, if you like them, I won't knock you for it, enjoy them and I'll let you be. Just don't tell me they are any better than my opened ones, at least I can play with mine..

This should be re-titled to "The Official AFA Appreciation Thread". :)

Anyway, I only own one AFA graded item, hoping I could add more in the future...

The OP couldn't stink of more sarcasm. To which, I couldn't agree more. AFA is a joke and a complete waste of money. Artificial inflation at its worst.

    1. Whats the point of having a transformer if you cant get it out to transform?
    2. Why would you not want to pose a figure with others on a shelf
    3. I dont like box displays they look bland to me ( In my OPINION)

There was an Action Master Devastator on ebay that was starting at $0.55 or something, and when I asked if I could open the acrylic casing, he took it off the list. I was gonna break open that mofo.

    Bastard.

I've been at work for the last 10 hours, I'm tired and totally didn't see the sarcasm... oh well... but, I really, really, really, dislike AFA.

Then again, I have made several posts on FB about several things today, that I normally wouldn't like the whole Mayans thing and religion trying to be pushed into schools now over this whole shooting thing... so a lot of shit has gotten under my skin today... it's been a long day..

I'll be honest here; if I were planning on buying it, I wouldn't tell the guy my plan.

I'd just scoop it up cheap and take a hammer to it the moment it arrived.

AFA-cased toys are like permanently polybagged comics. "So, you got 50,000 comic books in your collection. Which one is your favorite?" - "This one, it's worth $1,000." - "No, I mean, which one did you enjoy the most?" - "Dude, I don't read them! Taking them out and touching them decreases their value!"

Not only is AFA essentially a high-priced ripoff of collectors and an artificial market inflator, it's also fallable. Take for instance the high-quality (and I use the term EXTREMELY loosely) KO Transformers that passed AFA review and grading. That right there tells me that it isn't worth anyone's time.

And on a side note, my wife got me a graded Commemorative Dirge on accident instead of the normal. It's open and the box has been disposed of.

I'm not a AFA guy but I mostly collect misb. I honesty don't have space for a bunch of loose stuff also, to me it can look tacky with a ton of stuff all over the place. I have a bunch of movie toys misb & loose which imo are really fun to mess with.

So many people are missing the sarcasm, how embarrassing...

To be honest, I have absolutely no desire to have anything AFA, but I don't really get why some people seem to actively dislike the people that do. There seems to be some unbalanced patronizing going on, I personally haven't seen anyone be snobby about their AFA figures.

I think it's because people don't like the fact that we AFA owning collectors are better than them
