Film crews use drones to shoot Chicago skyline footage for new 'Transformers' pic Film crews use drones to shoot Chicago skyline footage for new 'Transformers' pic The latest installment of the "Transformers" franchise has primarily been filming in Detroit, but it appears Chicago will play a small role. According to Rich Moskal, who heads up the Chicago Film Office, a small crew was in town Sunday and Monday shooting skyline footage using a drone in the South Loop. This is most-likely footage for the fifth film in the series, "Transformers: The Last Knight." The third film, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" (from 2011) did shoot the bulk of its scenes in Chicago and some scenes from the fourth film, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" were also shot locally.
