Recently I got a Hot Rod, bought it for nostalgic sake.

Watching Transformers the movie, I realised that he has some potential upgrades/ addons. So I wrote down some of the "to-do" list

    Addon list:

    - Utility Tool (Saw blade transformable to Welding Gun or Pistol) -> Done, need some minor tweaking for the handle.
    - Replacement of Head master to Head Back cover
    - Rifle upgrade

Do note that this is using a FDM 3D printer to print, it will look different if put up on Shapeways.

    Utility tool

Remember the scene where Kup was captured by a Giant Robot Squid? Hot Rod to the rescue with his Saw blade!

Spinning blade that can also folds to become a welder or weapon!

When not in use, you can slot it into his "backpack"

In Vehicle mode you can peg it in on the sides

Very nice. I don't want the original unless they redeco it, but if they do I know where to come.

    Very nice!
I actually prefer the look of this compared to what they end up looking like from Shapeways.

You have my attention on the head replacement idea. The current line would be so much nicer if all these updates to legacy characters didn't mean they'd have to be headmasters too. I hate headmasters.

Yes. Why hasn't a third party company pulled their fingers out and actually started releasing "proper" heads in packs is beyond me.

While I agree it's an oddity, most of the TR line can't be de-headmastered without modifying the body too, Blurr and Hot Rod seem to get away with minor modifications, Galvatron requires fabricating a head swivel mechanism in the torso, and for molds like Scourge it just doesn't seem possible, to name a few.

This is true, but considering that the CW Optimus kits require removing pins, and other kits are massive trailers that parts-form to create armour, I wrought be adverse to either a kit, or a retooled and/or OS KO of said problematic figures.

I like it. A sword and shield from the movie would be cool too. I know I'd definitely buy a new head if it's made before I get around to modding mine.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; all a de-HM'd Scourge needs is a new head with the ability to rotate 90 degrees downward and then be turned around 180 degrees. (Unscrewing the blue gun port on the canopy would also help) It's so simple, why hasn't anyone made this?

EDIT: lol TWO YEARS LATER someone finally realizes how incredibly f****** easy this solution could've been :lolol

Provided I'm interpreting your suggetion correctly, that would involve cleanly cutting out the existing TM neck port of Scourage and installing a swivel that would move the head down into the canopy. In theory it's similar to modding Galvatron but I'm not sure Scourge's body could withstand such surgery.

That's not at all what I meant. Just take Fracas in head mode, and press his face right behind his canopy in vehicle mode, right where you would expect it to be. It isn't far at all from the neck port there. All that needs to happen is a new head with a downward neck joint (possibly double-jointed) that can get it there (and the side to side joint too) would have to be made. You literally would just plug this new head in and BOOM, done. No cutting, drilling, sanding, or permanent mods of any kind. Just swap heads to do it, and switching back is just as easy. It might stick out a little far back, but Scourge's head is supposed to have vents on the back anyway. Of course, his head-mounted engine would have to be bigger, about the size of the one the old Scourge had. The blue "tower" on the canopy should be removed too, (easily done, it's just on one screw) otherwise it's obscure the new center engine. Hopefully it makes sense now.

After a long hiatus, I managed to design a back cover for Hot Rod.

Not the best back head design (my very first attempt on heads, so pardon me! >.<)

    Side profile:

    Front profile:

Articulation (can look up, slightly down and tilt slightly) + the way to fit it in into the peg:

Parts forming, but it attaches under the hood slot nice and snug :) . So no cutting involve!

    Next step:
Design and mod his previous headmaster to Firebolt, and probably a way to combine with this current rifle to transform him into a gun!

It is possible to do Scourge. I need to get pictures posted of the mod. I don't have Hot Rod yet but Blurr is just a matter of trimming the nosecone/shield.
Awesome blade welder. Are you going to sell them?

Yes, I will be selling the Blade Welder :)

Haha, if time permits for me to design, I will consider it.
