Hmm. I cannot get past the fact that Siege Jetfire looks better than Masterpiece Skyfire, in my book. (I know I am not the only one who feels this way...) Guess that whole "slavish to animation accuracy" thing is not all it is cracked up to be. I see that, now.

Star Saber, you sechsy plastic goodness, come here.

It is very much a thing.

Just happens to be that you dont like it. Doesnt make it worse than other toy aesthetics - but it is a niche route Takara is banking on now.

The problem with animation accuracy is that you'd be hard pressed to find two shots of a character that looked consistent. :p

While the Masterpiece Skyfire is certainly more animation accurate, I think I also personally prefer the Seige Jetfire. And if I had to guess, just based on other Masterpiece figures, I probably would not enjoy transforming the Masterpiece Skyfire nearly as much. Nothing against the Masterpiece version, it looks great, but I have a feeling that if I get it, it will get transformed once and put on a shelf. Whereas with the Seige Jetfire, I still take it down and transform it and look at it from time to time. I also like all the “bells and whistles” that the Seige version came with.

Same goes for different paintings of an art movement. Though they might differ in execution and quality, the vibe they give off is the same.

theres a key difference between different interpertations of art and literal animation errors and corner cutting. dont compare the two. it is not worth it

meh honestly masterpiece is based around animation accuracy so i think for what skyfire is supposed to be he looks superb. as long as this dread sunbow accuracy doesnt affect mainline i am cool with it

So what if the animation was subpar?
The character model lineart is basically the definitive reference point.

The big elephant in the room here is a specific subgroup of 'fans' who have transfixed their hate on even the lineart; because some G1 characters even have a bit of derp - be it in proportions or face or whatever.

So these guys have - by their own choice, developed an allergy to this 'derp' factor in G1.

For them, every single effing toy iteration of every character needs to have epic super hero proportions and cybertronian perfection. Zealots of a very narrow aesthetic personified.

Actually the big elephant in the room is the yellowing plastics issue.

No doubt CHPS is cheaper every year. Now the cheap hollow plastic syndrome is turning yellow even out of the box.

Just looking at MP Jetfire next to the Siege one, and maaan the lack of detail is so jarring. It is really beyond me why someone would want a toy that big so devoid of detail. I just dislike such giant flat panels, even G1 toys were more detailed.

Man, I thought I was going nuts. But fully agree. MP Jetfire looks so ... flat. I'm not going to fault anyone who wants it, it's just not for me

bit overly passionate arent you about this, using terms words and terms like "hate" and "zealots".

people just arent content paying massive amounts of money for the bare minimum thats only there because animators back then removed details for the sake of saving up budget. like if you like it cool but other than that it just makes a figure that looks great even, mediocre to some people and they have every right to have that opinion. but i am not speaking for everyone. i personally like the sunbow designs a lot but its not my preference and i think the complaints against this are perfectly valid.

Seeing the two Jetfires together.... well, I don't regret jumping off of the MP train, that's all I can say regarding that.

The irony is of course, when Siepe launched people moaned about the battle damage greebles and when some suggested Siege Jetfire as a MP stand in, they couldnt take it seriously because tech greeble.
