First, let me say I'm sure there are probably already threads for this. However, I've not seen any in several weeks, and with the search function down I don't see why we shouldn't have a new one. If a mod wants to merge this later, please do. Anyway, I'm curious as to what solutions people here have come up with for unwanted/unused accessory storage. You know, cyberkeys, missles, whatever. Also, what do you do with non-integrated weapons when displaying a character in vehicle mode? Is it different from the other accessories? I'm asking because I just received MP Hot Rod today, and between all his bits & bobs, and Grimlock's crown which I don't use, I've got a small pile of plastic just cluttering up my MP shelf. Previously, I'd always stored this stuff in plastic bags away in a plastic container. But now that I'm trying to sell some stuff, trying to match missles/cyberkeys/whatever with their appropriate toy is being a giant pain in the ass. Just curious to know if anyone has come up with something better.
Generally for anything that cannot be stored or attached in a neat manner on the figure, I'll put the accessories in a zip lock bag and have them be stored away in a shoe box or other container. I really hate losing prices so I have an entire shoe box of individual zip lock bags with their respected parts in them. As far as not being able to tell which accessories go where, use the resource section of TFW. It'll help a lot. Or, why not mark on the bag what figure the accessories go to?
Due to my display, I don't have a whole lot of extra pieces needing storage, but a couple of my figures' missiles and extra bits (Skyfire's helmet, Bumblebee's jet-ski, etc.) I simply have a small ziploc bag for that is hidden on a separate shelf next to my modem & router. Energon Stars I actually have in a little bowl that I put my keys in when I get home. Cyber Keys have their own ziploc bag (should probably put them in with the Stars). And then missiles and guns for toys I don't display (read: future custom fodder) go in one of those stackable plastic drawer sets. The small ones.
i use the ziplock baggy shoebox method and tfu.info. it allows you to search by color, year, line, type of vehicle etc. so you dont have to memorize every toys name
I've got a plastic box for a bunch, and then a bag for the rest. I don't tend to forget where anything came from so that's not an issue, but if there is, the resource section's quick to figure it out for me.
my storage solution is similar to this, save i have a softside tackle box with removable hard plastic inserts which resemble what ghostie has pictured and i store my weapons and accessories in there.
I use the plastic storage containers like Ghost posted. I have two- five drawer sets that I keep a lot of loose accessories in. I also use clear plastic baseball card holders, either 50 or 100 count as risers and they work great to keep any extra parts for the figure they are supporting.
A Rubbermaid plastic tub and a pewter cup my parents got me during their trip to Malaysia, but most recently the small weapon box that comes with the iGear guns for Kup and Perceptor. Bought two sets and want a place to store some of the smaller extra bits that came with PP05 van bros. XD
Two options: 1) Ziploc Bag 2) Storage Tote In some instances it is a combination of the two. Namely for loose accessories or ones I don't feel look right with a figure (example a missile or other projectile).
I generally use compartmentalized tupperware-type boxes from hardware stores or the Container Store (sometimes with ziplocs inside). As my collection expands I've been thinking of consolidating and standardizing accessory storage a bit; it feels a bit chaotic having several different types of container.
I do this same thing, they are found in the fishing/hunting/sporting goods section and are relatively cheap. I have one for Good guys one for bad guys. there are also pieces that don't fit in there, so I got a bigger one that has no compartments, just open, and I put things like RID Ultra Magnus' Gun and RID Primes Fire Truck parts in there as well as any other bigger pieces. It's also a good way to transport small number of TF's.
My storage method is fairly original. I get a figure I really hate that has a lot of 5mm holes & C-clips & stick as many guns onto it as I can.
