Not surprised Endgame isn’t there, it’s a fantastic movie in context with the other “episodes” but terrible as a stand alone film.

I AM surprised to see Joker everywhere. It’s an OK film but mostly derivative and nothing I’d put on any kind of best list. Did the 4chan chuds hack the nominations? :lol

The only reason I can come up with for why Joker is getting all this awards attention is because of Phoenix's performance being just THAT good that it's now carrying the entire film. I mean, yeah, it's really good movie overall, but nothing that warrants this level of accolades.

The directing was okay but clearly followed the "how to make a movie look gritty and "indie" with offset focusing and an undersaturated color palette" template to a tee, the writing was also only okay and did not stick the landing with attempted 'clever twists' - the neighbor romance was so obviously a figment the second it happened that they should be a little embarrassed fo reven thinnking anyone would fall for it -, and even the rest of the actors including De Niro were fairly mediocre at best.

But Phoenix... man oh man... watching him was watching a master class of acting and transformation the likes of Daniel Day Lewis.

Was surprised on how much nominations “Joker” but it hindsight it makes sense. A lot critics didn’t like it but you also have to remember it had a standing ovation at its premiere and its RT was initially very fresh. The entire discussion over it made people forget that it’s pretty much an Oscar-bait movie.

Joker deserves it more than Endgame.
Infinity War deserved it more than Endgame.

    Joker can’t touch Endgame.

Right now DC’s playing with fire no thanks to Robert Pattinson as Batman, no way anything from DC will touch the MCU, least of all, Endgame.

Only because it can’t reach down that far.

This isn’t an MCU vs. DC thing; it’s a film vs. film thing, and Joker is a greater cinematic achievement.

I can guarantee you the "For Your Consideration" Reel was the only part of Joker that anyone in the Academy actually watched. If it was anything like the (indeed, quite compelling) trailers, all they needed to know was "Phoenix is acting really hard and Scorsese is attached" to nominate it. They probably didn't even realize it was a comic movie. But the people who voted will, which is why it won't actually win any of the loftier categories it's nominated in.

Just an FYI; Scorsese has nothing to do with this movie at all. He’s even recently said he hasn’t even finished watching it. So this didn’t get a default nomination the same way The Irishman arguably did.

Actually I’d be willing to bet that the profit margin for Joker was probably better since I doubt very much it cost nearly as much to make as Avengers Endgame did.

And Dark Of The Moon, which both were well deserving of.

All 6 of those movies were.

End Game: Gross: 2,797,800,564 Budget: $356,000,000

    Joker: Gross: $1,068,905,854 Budget: $55,000,000

    Twilight 4: Gross: $829,746,820 Budget: $120,000,000

    Bumblebee: Gross: $467,989,645 Budget: $135,000,000

TF Last Knight: Gross: $605,425,157 Budget: $217,000,000

Wow, I didn't realize that Twilight Part 4, was that much better than Bumblebee and TF 4 (Or was that Five? Doesn't matter. They're all the same movie.) It has nothing to do with the fact that ticket prices are so expensive these days. No no, it's all people love it right? And what people love, must be the best thing ever. Just like the Twilight Saga is the best book ever. Because look at how well it sold. It was the best selling book series of all time for awhile, after all!

First off, Last Knight was 5, Age of Extinction was 4. Second off, we don’t mention Twilight at all, those movies are unholy creations from hell and therefore, Verboten.

So, your "It made more of money" argument only works when it's in favor of things you like.

    Got it.

Maybe if these snubbed actors/actresses and directors actually made a good movie and put on a good performance they'd get nominated.

The term snubbed makes it seem they were purposely not nominated. They just weren't in the top of the category to get nominated.

I guess Hollywood is like modern schools and they think everyone deserves a trophy, no matter how good or bad they are.

I guess someone should tell Greta Gerwig that her movie that is nominated for best picture, best screenplay, best score, and two best actresses awards wasn’t good.

I know the common thing to say when ignoring disparities in acknowledgement of women is to say it is all merit-based, but the movie with the most nominations was the worst reviewed.

You're asking for rewards based on merit.
    How dare you?
