I liked Ricky's speech for sure, but some of his jokes fell flat imo. I only say this as I'm surprised how many didn't hit. I typically don't care or have much of an opinion regarding awards shows like this. I actually prefer the best score or editing awards rather than actor or director.
What surprised me most was that I was actually... well... surprised at some of the wins. Obviously disappointed by a couple of wins/losses as well, but I suppose that's nothing new.
No host this year. Worked great last year. Oscars: No host for 2020 Academy Awards following Kevin Hart drama
Good. And keep Ricky whoever from the proceedings (wasn’t he in a Muppet movie? Didn’t ring a bell when this all came up), dude was so incendiary we don’t need anymore drama. Okay, so for the films I actually saw and care about: * TROS will maaaaybe get a score nod, but since 90% of it was recycled themes it probably won’t. If they’re cool with it, then they’ll give it a nod just to salute John Williams. * Visual effects will be between TROS, The Lion King, Irishman (I didn’t see it but like I said it’s academy bait), and Endgame. Out of those four, Irishman will proooobably take it. TROS and Endgame are too popular to win it, and The Lion King was too poorly received AND too popular to get it. * Joaquin Phoenix will get a nomination for Best Actor for Joker purely to bring viewers in since it was a popular film, but won’t get the award. * Endgame will get a Best Picture nod to bring in viewers. * “Spirit” from The Lion King will get a Best Original Song nod to have the publicity of Beyonce performing at the Oscars, but again thanks to TLK’s critical reviews it won’t get it. “Into the Unknown” will also get a nod. If not Spirit, then “Never Too Late”, although if that’s the case it won’t be performed because Elton John hated the movie. The song from Rocketman will get a nod as well, it’d be funny if John performs for that but wouldn’t perform for TLK. Maaaaybe one of the new songs from Toy Story will get a nod? It’s been so forgotten that even if it gets a nod it won’t win. * Best Animated Feature will probably go to Toy Story 4 as the safest bet, but after Missing Link won, and after every animated movie was really meh this year, an underdog will take it.
gonna be shocked if Tom Hanks doesn't get at least a Best Supporting Oscar nomination for "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood."
IDK, mostly drunk Ricky Gervais sticking it to the rich stuck up people of Hollywood was quite amazing. I loved watching him roast them to their faces. More of that would actually get me to give a damn about the Oscars. Also known as the best participation trophy awards show. Never heard of him before this show, but I love him now.
I'm kind of curious what "else" is. There should be a rule where if they make such a statement, they are required to follow through.
In this context it would probably be “Or else be condemned to an eternally narrow and hyper commercialised form of cinema and remain artistically dull and stagnant” or words to that effect.
Joker getting many nods in the smaller awards. Still waiting for the big awards nods. No frozen 2 or lion king for animated film! Dragon 3 Klaus I lost my body missing link toy story 4 No anime again also. Edit--best director, actor and movie nod for joker! We got another comic book film nod in best picture! Joker got 11 nods! Poor spidey got shut out! Avengers got 1 and star wars got 3!
Not by hollywood. Even the golden globes had it for best animated film. Looks like knifes didn't get a best picture nod!
