I was wondering an ALIEN robotic samurai weilding sword? And he even speak Japanese too i was like WTF?? I think it's understandable why he use the word "sensei" because Prime explain that they learn the way of talking on earth like why jazz was talking like a street punk. But he look like he is wearing a samurai armor with the golden face , it make me think that the creators drop one of their seed on these guy
Aliens can't wield swords? Yeah it's kinda stupid that transformers seem to take their personalities from and model their looks after puny humans
I believe he has learn the way of honor after leaving the Decepticons and came to realize the Japanese samurai culture. I'm assuming he appreciated them so much, he changed his figure to mimic an actual samurai.
I guess he's just a major Japanophile. And Transformers have been wielding swords since the first movie, bro.
I still can't get over the fact that he is a triple changer. omg where is that, forget the voyager repaint of sky hammer i want a triple changer Drift.
What did you want, him in a sailor uniform and Super Saiyan transformations? I would actually have liked that...
I really liked Drift, more than I thought I would. I wasn't sure what to expect, but he was a cool character. I was just a little disappointed that they didn't do much with his past as a Decepticon. I thought that would have been more important. Maybe in future films.
Drift ditches Slug and decides to ride Godzilla into battle because nature balance or some crap like that whooo atomic fire breath go!
I'm pretty sure it wasn't even mentioned. And there's no explanation for him being a triple changer, or why he didn't utilize his super-useful helicopter mode in the whole "get the seed away from the city" thing. Great character, though. Watanabe did a great job.
I loved Drift. So he was a Samurai. Thats no different then Crosshairs looking like a paratrooper in a trenchcoat, Hound looking like Rambo or Bee looking like a Ninja.
All interations of the Transformers that I have seen have some stereotypes in them. From G1 to the Unicron Trilogy. They are everywhere. For the films, I would explain it this way; the Transformers arrive on Earth and learn the languages and cultures upon where they show up. Drift may have shown up in Japan and delved into their culture. He could have been a history buff, or just very into the way of the Samurai and chose to take that into his Earthen persona. This goes for Crosshairs and Hound too. Sure, they were probably written the way they are without that in mind, but I think it makes sense.
I don't know why this is an issue. There is an in-universe answer for this: In movie one, Prime clearly states that they learned of human culture from the internet. My thought has always been that Autobots scan the internet, see about humanity, and, much like humans, when they see something cool or interesting they investigate it further. They chose what fits their personalities. No different than if I went to England and found a rugby team I liked so I bought a jersey. Hell, before ROTF I argued that how they could EASILY explain Arcee being female: She was tasked with observing Mikala and felt that she represented best who Arcee was, so Arcee took on the looks and mannerisms of a human female. That would have made MORE sense than 'Oh look, female transformer, who cares!'
This! But we must also remember Cybertronians have been on Earth pretty much since it materialized, Lol. So as far as we know Samurais could be based of Cybertronians and Drift is a bot who happens to continue the tradition.
Man, that climax would have been MUCH shorter if they summoned Godzilla instead of the Dinobots. I can even picture Hound, Drift and Crosshairs cackling in glee as they watch the King of the Monsters 'accidentally' flatten Hong Kong while obliterating the Decepticons and Lockdown's ship.
