Will drop to 150 the moment the UT one is released into the wilds.

They thought it was good idea to price it at $300 knowing damn well they have a bad track record. What are they smoking?

Watch UT battle damaged version (aka the movie accurate unless you're going to paint it yourself) going to be roughly the same. Maybe a couple bucks cheaper. What matters is the quality at the end or whether you prioritize the robot or the alt mode...

Ya ya ya quality, some of the best quality figures I’ve handled are half this guy’s price. Not even Fanstoys who apparently also fully painted their figures and charge premium just because they can, get close to this price.

I'm getting used to that we'll never get back to 2018-2019 prices maybe the fact that I recently spent almost 300$ on FT Astrotrain helps... :confused2  The only exception are figures announced years back and only because some retailers like ShowZ honor the pre-order prices (like that Megatank Megatron being charged 160$ for a 33cm 3P figure)

For some companies the prices have stayed the same.

One of them I can think of off the top of my head is XTB, but them seem to be flipping back and forth between the old prices and the higher prices.

Which is exactly why those prices aren’t coming back. Everyone just accepted the new prices. People are too impulsive with this hobby and act like it’s a drug. Yes transformers are awesome and amazing, but they aren’t food. Just don’t buy something that’s overpriced, it will price drop and show them that it’s TOO MUCH.

I believe there're other reasons for prices going up, not just "the company wants it". I already skipped a couple figures this year because I didn't really think they were worth it (MA Soundwave, BMB Sentinel or even that Hasbro Jurassic Park crossover) but sometimes us collectors just have to deal with it. I haven't decided which DotM Meg I'm getting (or if I'm getting any at all) but again, I'll be surprised if UT charges >250$ for theirs.

And I know better than to believe prices doubling in a year is just materials. Nothing doubles in a year unless you’re in Venezuela. Customers dictate demand and prices, they’re just usually too impatient or accepting to actually do anything in their favor. Much like Apple.

They call it reverse psychology, so when the price drops it will seem acceptable even if it will always be too expensive.

Yep, and some companies like Apple for example, purposely make insanely priced items. Like a $100 monitor stand, so that they get publicity and can sell other items that seem more worth it. Companies are smart as hell when it comes to extracting money, people should never give a company the benefit of the doubt.

Some people will buy this simply because they can afford it and don't care that much for the price, and I think it's fine, everyone can decide for themselves. I'm going to wait and see but my main concern is the quality and presence of this guy, not the price (which I admit is somewhat steep).

This is also why I don't think prices will go down, even if a few of us abstain from the price creep.

There will be more people with FOMO, "F*** it I'm almost done", "Takara is taking too long" and most importantly:

"I have the spare money/credit card at the moment".

So many industries in the past year have seen both artificial and genuine increase in costs. The ones that can take advantage, will.

Yep. Unfortunately, one of these megatron’s may be the last 3p piece I buy. Because collectors who don’t give a shit about prices or quality are driving these things into the ground. I just can’t stay in a hobby getting perpetually more expensive because everyone’s attitude towards spending is “whatevs”.

Gee bro, chill out. Nobody is forcing you to buy these figures. You're welcome to leave you know. "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen !"

It's the companies' good right to ask for higher prices. As long as there's sufficient demand, there's no reason for them to drop the price levels (i.o.w. a few less buyers is not likely to change the campanies' price level strategy).

It's a simple matter of 'market forces' (used Google translate for that one ).
