Just imagine if there were a CUUSOO-style website for Transformers toy ideas made by fans of the Transformers franchise. Someone makes a Transformers toy idea, posts it online, reaches a certain number of votes, and then becomes a toy! Though I really wish that could happen, but what are your thoughts?

 

That would be pretty cool, but creating a Transformers toy takes a lot of work, more so than, say, a LEGO set.

Next to that, a lot of people just want to see existing characters receive new toys, rather than new, fanmade ones. And to be honest, the amount of really terrible 'original characters' created by fans is pretty big.

So yeah...cool idea, don't see it work though

While new molds seems implausible, I can see this working for repaints and retools.

 

Totally. They should make a contest to create new repaints for the GDO line.

 

They should do more on sites like this. Like, make a thread about what kind of repaint or retool or character or whatever the fans might want. Everyone puts in their ideas. The more popular ones get put into a poll. The winner gets considered to be made.

This would be an idea I'd be behind.

 

It would be a useless venture since Hasbro would and could never legally admit to taking ideas from it or even viewing it because it opens up a whole world of royalty, licensing & legal headaches. This is why they won't, don't and never will accept solicitations of any kind.

That's not to say, however, that someone within the ranks couldn't or hasn't secretly peeped around the internet to see what fans are waiting/hoping for or how & who they've repainted/modded into other characters.

"Hey, it would be totally cool if Hasbro turned my ideas into toys" is many a fan's pipe dream.

Those fans have no idea how multi-billion dollar businesses are run.

I don't get the whole ordeal about "hasbro-dun-steel-muh-idears".

Valve does this sort of thing with the Steam Workshop and nobody complains about THAT.

 

Hasbro is a very American (i.e. cautious) corporation. Just that fact that one single fan COULD potentially take them to court means Hasbro won't take the risk.

 

And the first year Hasbro does this we get Masterpiece Erector. Then they stop doing it. ;-)

Now if Hasbro gave us a list of characters and let us vote for a "Fan's Choice Edition", that might work. Maybe we'd finally get G1 Arcee!

They'd undoubtedly would utilize a "All submissions become the property of Hasbro" disclaimer if they started such a feature.
