I'm struggling with the decision to sell off my entire collection to abolish my TF toy hobby along with the fragment of my Star Wars and other collectables.

To the point, I’m seeking advice. I have in my possession around 260+/- 10 TFs and I’m sure I can get at least a couple of hundred bucks for the whole thing on e(vil)Bay. Here’s my dilemma: I really, really like certain pieces of my collection and it pains me to even think of letting them go, but I know if I don’t exorcise it completely the hobby bug will fester inside of me and I’ll keep buying more and more (I’m likely to keep buying after I get rid of my collection anyway, it’s almost like an addiction). However, I digress: What should I do? I’ve never sold before on eBay and I refuse to sell to my local comic shop owner since he only pays 20% of what he can get for it, read $80 vice $400. That’s just something I will not do!

Should I sell ‘em or keep ‘em? They are precious to me but I need to break away from collecting, it’s just too prohibitively expensive. All they do is collect dust so I feel like I’m wasting my money anyway.

Sell em, but watch out that you don't wind up getting hooked on crack as your next fix.

Too much for me to remember off the top of my head, but here's a few examples(mind you all have been displayed even if they have the box which most do not)
    1. Predaking reissue with unapplied sticker sheets, all accessories inside box with plastic insert, instructions and Takara marketing sheet.
    2. loose Energon Decepticons. . .(Demloishor, Mirage, Shockblast, Scorponok, Giant & TRU exclusive Megatron etc.)
    3. Loose G1 Grimlock (extremly tight if I do say so myself) with no stickers or accessories.
    4. All loose Alternators (except Decepticharge, Swerve and Optimus) + 3 customs. First: Mazda RX8 "Richochet", Second: Black and Purple Wheeljack, Third Scion xB "Soundwave".

There's a lot more but that's just what I'll take time to mention now until I can go home and get a complete list.

I'm going through the same problem and my room is a frigging warehouse! TFs, MLs, DC Direct, Chogokins, Joes, Zoids, Star Wars.

    Here's my advice:

    1. Keep those that you really love. Example, if you love your G1 Grimlock, keep him.

    2. Sell all those that you can live without. Especially the expensive ones. Example, if you can live without G1 Grimlock, sell him!

    3. Develop a theme for your collection. Example, for my TF reissue collection, my theme was G1. So i skipped on the reissued G2 Optimus Prime.

    4. Cultivate a savings habit and stick to it. E.g. settling aside US$1,000 from your basic salary.

I'll post the entire list of TFs later on today or tomorrow. It all must go! What’s the best way to conduct business here?

Yeah, post them up in the Junkion Exchange with an idea of what you want for them. Then what you can't sell here after a couple of weeks, list on Ebay. I'd suggest batching a few of the bits together to save on listing fees - for example, the Energon Decepticons, you might want to make lots of the Deluxes rather than listing them on their own.

Does TFW2005 charge listing fees, or is that just eBay? I think I get what your saying is: "sell them as lots."

I was originally going to sell the collection in the following lots: Deluxes, Basics, BW/BM/Universe, Primes/Megatrons, & G1s.

You have to weed your collection down. Calculate a number or value that makes sense to keep, and stick with that.

Also. if you do keep buying, which you inevitably will, you have to cycle out the stuff you don't care as much about.

    Remember, less is more.

No, you're not alone. I too get a bit depressed from time to time seeing dust collect on items that I spent, overall, a lot of time and money to collect. I'm not yet to the point of selling them, and I don't have many high dollar pieces, though, the cumulative value is still in the $1,000's. I tend to think that I'll pass many of them on to my nephews as they get older and less destructive. When/if they begin to outgrow my toy room, I'll start weeding them out. Of course, I've really just been focusing, largely, on Alternators and the odd G1 bot here and there.

Maybe you could just thin out your collection and concentrate on one small subset of TFs. If you stick to Alts you could get away with spending less than $150 per year and only accumulate several new TFs per year and still be active in your collecting hobby. Either way, though, you know how you feel inside and you should do what feels right. It is a constant struggle between spending money on those things you need and spending it on things that just make you happy.
