A theory why the film is being panned so much by critics.

Lately, I've been noticing a lot of people complaining about the critical reviews of AoE. And it's probably annoying as shit. However, I have a theory as to why the critics are panning it so much despite overall audience reaction being positive.

They have jobs of watching movies for a living.

This may seem like a stupid reason, after all, who wouldn't want a job where you watch movies for a living?

I'll tell you who - the people who watch movies for a living. They watch movies day in and day out, and they begin to get tired of it. Action movie after action movie, Chick flick after chick flick, and horrible sequel after horrible sequel. Let's face it, they're sick of the movies.

They spend their days reviewing movies, dissecting them, and finding the flaws. They don't go to the movies to escape their bad jobs. The movies ARE their bad jobs. Hell, some of them probably skip the films and write up a review based on what information they have about the basic plot, just to get it over with *Coff*Ebert*Coff*Thor*Coff*

So, don't listen to the views of critics. They're veterans at watching movies, and they literally don't want to do it anymore. Form your own opinion.

This has been a PSA from Stonecrusher Productions.

EDIT: Nevermind, AoE was genuinely awful.

Is that why Godzilla and Captain American and X-Men got good reviews? Come on.

All of that and the fact that's it's not very good. After the first viewing, I think it's the worst of the series (the first is the best).

I think maybe it's getting panned because it kind of sucks at being a movie.

Well, their history as franchises gives them a bit of leverage, and some critics have been doing it for short enough to not be jaded.

That's alright. Your opinion, as formed by a single viewing, is quite valid. You have your opinion, and I have yet to see the film and form my own.

It's directed by Michael Bay. As a serious film, it may be of lesser quality then most, but when you look at it from another perspective, it may be better to tolerate.

Your opinion is of dubious quality, since you haven't given us any reason to believe your opinion.

Do we really need theories as to why movies like this don't review well? Come on, now.

But, like, as a movie, it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure there were about six distinguishable acts and absolutely no sense of pacing. Don't get me wrong, I had a ton of fun watching the movie, but it really is kind of a shitty film, on a technical, objective level.

Just tossing my own two cents in.

I will consider your word when I view the film myself.

All I know is, the movie I saw tonight is nowhere near as bad as the critics say. I wouldn't call it bad at all. I'm sure there's any number of possibilities for the disconnect that critics have.

Extremely surprised so many critics hate it. I loved it. Wouldn't call it my favorite yet because it could just be the "first viewing adrenaline" but it has a shot. Characters were better, both humans and transformers, the action was great, pacing was great (no boring Sam and his job search moments), acting was better and many OMG moments. Plus it's prepared for sequels unlike any other past movie.

Just got back from seeing this and, as said before, it's not the best movie- but it isn't a 13% movie.

Tucci and Optimus carried the movie.

But I think the main issue was the editing. The length and editing are what dragged it down- had they cut off 30-40 minutes of human element, it would have flowed much better.

As a side note, I'm also surprised by the brutality of some of our members with this movie. I mean jeez, some of y'all need to chill lol.

Yeah I left rotf and dotm with a sour taste in my mouth and after reading here how bad this one was I was pleasantly surprised I got what I always wanted autobot characters that did something and spoke...imagine that only took 3 movies...but I can gladly say this is IMO by far the best of em all

The thing about critics is that they basically compare every single movie to Citizen Cane.

Personally, I feel Citizen Cane drags too much.

If Michael Bay made Captain America 2 and the result was the exact same as what was actually made, it'd get bad ratings. Why? Because critics hate Bay. Plain and simple. Was Age of Extinction an Oscar worthy film? Of course not. Does it deserve ratings lower than freakin REVENGE OF THE FALLEN?? Heck no! I'm making a serious hypothesis that most critics just didn't care to really watch the movie and had their review already written before watching because they just don't want to see Michael Bay do Transformers anymore. I'm sick of this crap.
