I was suffering through an episode of the infamous 1997 TV series "Godzilla Island" (known for its low-budget kaiju battles depicted with action figures!) and I discovered a familiar-looking prop: You can see the episode here, if you're feeling particularly masochistic.
Lol nice, I wonder if that's the shackwave version or if they just painted it black Wait, was shackwave even available in Japan? Yeah they probably just painted a shockwave
That so crazy, didn't know that show existed. And I thought I was a big Godzilla fan. Action figures huh? Talk about low budget.
Once our high school Japanese teacher found out that I was a Godzilla fan, he'd sing that theme song on a near-weekly basis.
Oh man. That was painful. I didn't believe you when you mentioned the masochism. Thanks for the cool find!
I reckon Shackwave was available in japan since my dad bought mine in yokohama or thereabouts back in the 80's. However, that particular prop in the shot looks like rather a "customized" version. Like fully wrapped in some foil or something...
Wow, right you are! I had no idea but easily found it online. Looks like it's from Aliens, during the scene where Ripley & Newt are trapped inside the med lab with the planted facehuggers. I see at least 3 Shockwaves?
Well this does not seem to be a transformable figure though. It looks more like some generic laser pistol made after shockwave's altmode shape.
It's vacuformed, a common industry practice for producing multiple identical props as needed. A G1 Shockwave was clearly used as a positive template.
