Typically when I collect I generally try to get/keep only one version of each character (there are some exceptions here.)

Just curious, how many folks collect similarly? Or do more folks tend to keep multiple versions of every character?

I usually do it one mold for one guy, but for certain molds, multiple.
For example, I would have TR PMOP with siege prime as ginari/small boi prime.

I get what I like. But, I do tend to limit myself to only one of each version of each character. Like, I have multiple Bumblebees, but only one Masterpiece, one G1, one SS VW, one new Camaro, one 70’s Camaro, one ‘67 Camaro, etc. It would be a little tough for me to limit myself to just one toy of a character in a situation like that. But, they are all different and I like them all. A converse example is Bulkhead. I have his TFP FE toy and no others. That one is enough for me...even though I do kind of like the TFA version.

Hasbro will just keep releasing a better version and doing repaints no matter what. So I make sure to enjoy the hell out of each figure as it comes out before it becomes obsolete. :p

I regret keeping all my 2006-2012 Classics/Generations MISB years ago... never having to enjoyed them, and now there's no point in opening them up as the molds haven't aged well, and nobody is paying top dollar for loose.

I suffer from "Fear of Missing Out" / FOMO, so one of each of everything from multiple lines for me. :p

Just get whatever designs you like, even if it is multiples of the same characters and you end up with an Optimi infestation.

I've tried to keep it to one toy per character but sometimes a new toy comes out that grabs you. It's easier stick to one toy with lesser known Transformers who don't have many toys.

Titans Return gave us the definitive versions of quite a few lesser known Transformers like Triggerhappy, Quake, Tailgate and Repugnus. Triggerhappy and Quake hadn't had toys since G1 and their TR toys would be difficult to improve upon.

More well known characters like Soundwave and Hot Rod have several toys and it can be difficult to choose between them so I don't.

Then there's the older toys that you love and though lacking compared to modern engineered toys, haven't been surpassed by those same modern toys in your own eyes at least. For me, such toys include G1 Scorponok, G1 Prowl and Robotmasters Mirage.

Truth be told, I really think it's a case by case basis. There's nothing wrong with having several toys of a character if you like those toys or repaints of a mold. I love the Siege Seeker mold and intend in picking up every repaint of it.

I collect robots, figures, and not "characters".

If I like or am curious enough, I buy the figure and enjoy it for what it is.

I don't care if I have several of a "character", because they are not the same figure. Heck, if I cared, I would see them as upgrades versions and they would still work.

The only issue is I am running out of room and have to put some away to do rotations at times.

And not to be mean, but as long as "characters" continue being made, many are going to be chasing the dragon if they believe that they'll stop when the "perfect" version comes out. Because there's always going to be a better one.

I do. I've got a few repeat characters, but only if it's a combiner limb/torso that got a better update in Siege.

Other than that, one figure per character.

I don't have any repeats (unless Reflector counts)

More clarification needed on the question.
Do you mean, ‘one version of a character, per scale?’ or one version period or something else?

I’m certain there are those that had/have toys from the 80s (or reissues) and then get a masterpiece version of the same character(s), which is technically ‘multiple versions’ but is that an example you’re trying to exclude or include?

I have the same characters across multiple lines.
For MPs, I do collect the Original, Plus, New Versions and repaints of almost all of the characters. For my favorite characters, I try to collect multiples.

Yes, because its not depend on that aspect, but rather whatever figures that looks good to me. However, I only have multiple versions of few characters such as Megatron, Hound, Optimus, Starscream, and probably few others but not many.

I collect characters specifically, so I have multiples of every chapter. I don’t think I have any characters for which I have just one figure. Some chapters have toys that are wildly different, so I would have a hard time sticking to just one if I were to change my habits.

One of each character with a few exceptions. I get 2 of each chug combiner figure, just to display combined and as an individual figure. If a new version of a character comes out that I prefer over the one i have, I'll "retire" the old one by giving it a friends kid or something like that. When Earthrise Screamer comes out, I may keep the tetrajet wfc version. If a chug figure has an official MP, then'll I'll keep one from each line

I try to keep it to one mold per character on display, but I have multiple outmoded Primes, Starscreams, and Megatrons sitting in my closet.

I've adopted a recent practice, if I can't display the figure, or if the figure is not of my liking, I get rid of it or I dont make the purchase at all if Im hersitating too much.
