I rewatched the Beast Wars episode Deep Metal and there was something near the beginning of the episode that made me wonder if Rampage really did die. At about 2 1/2 minutes into the episode, where it introduces Depth Charge, the quantum scan revealed Rampage's energy signature. I thought this was curious because Depth Charge was in the present and not the past when the energy signature was detected. Of course, I am completely unfamiliar with "quantum scans" and the like, so I could be looking into it too much. After I finished watching the episode and watched the scene in Nemesis Part 1 where Depth Charge thrusts the Energon Blade into Rampage's spark. There is the explosion and also the bits and pieces of both Rampage and Depth Charge. Again, perhaps I'm looking into it too much, but I was wondering if it was at all possible if Rampage could have actually survived his implied demise, since other characters have been blown up time and time again (albeit usually in comical ways and reasons). Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks. P.S. Please don't hurt me. I'm not trying to stir up controversy or start an arguement; I'm just curious what you think.
He dead. Blewed up with Depthcharge. But unlike him, he didn't come back to life during the Universe war.
I think what's implied in the Deep Metal episode is that Depth Charge is detecting Rampage's spark signal through the time portal that he then goes through himself. But what you're suggesting (that Rampage's spark survived the explosion) could be fuel for further stories. It's also posible that Megatron's tampering with Rampage's spark eliminated the immortal aspect.
I thought rampages death also caused dinobot 2 to turn good since his spark was part of rampages. So that could also be a sign of him being dead.
Yeah, pretty much this. The raw Energon completely obliterated his already half-torn spark, destroying Rampage once and for all. He ain't coming back.
And honestly, it's better that way. From a story-telling point of view, it's nice when the threats that everyone faces are real. And death was a very real threat for Rampy.
I always found it chilling that he basically let Depthcharge plunge that energon shard in, what a tormented soul, very rarely do you get that sort of characterization in Transformers animation anymore.
agreed, allew. I loved that. He was an evil dude whose evil was mostly fueled by his own self-hatred.
Was Rampage's spark ever confirmed to be immortal? I remember it was produced as a part of an experiment to reproduce Starscream's mutant immortal spark, but it was never confirmed if the experiment was a success or not. My thought is it's a much more resilient spark, but not truly immortal - and irregardless, even if it were a copy of Starscream's, the end result is the same, that Rampage's body was still destructable. All things said though I agree that Megatron's tampering probably left him more vulnerable and ultimately weakened him enough for Depth Charge to finish him off.
I don't think it was immortal, per se, in the same sense as Starscream's spark was, Sol Fury, but it supremely resistant, surviving an Energon blade carving it in half, as well as granting the body immense healing capacity. Rampage was once skewered by a rock spike, but upon pulling it out, he healed almost instantly. So, he was more Wolverine super-healing than straight-up immortal, while his spark, while resistant to nearly all forms of damage, was vulnerable to raw/refined Energon.
I always looked at the Universe War Beasts as Zombies. At least Universe Beasts looked liked Zombies with rotting Transorganic flesh and all. That's how I accounted for Depth Charge comming back.
Thanks for the comments guys. That's what I thought in the first place; I didn't recall them ever saying that his spark was immortal, and the splitting of his spark probably didn't help, either. I guess there's always fan fiction.
