I was Christmas Shopping earlier today at toysrus, (looking at some things for Toys for Tots) when I stumbled upon the Transformers. I was surprised to see full racks with all the china deluxes and scouts, even more surprised to see first edition voyagers! But I was mostly looking to buy the china voyagers. I searched a bit and couldn't find any sadly. I looked above the shelf to see if they were hidden but that's when I noticed my toysrus had been putting boxes up there to the ceiling! I examined the boxes more closely and the ones above the Transformers had hasbro and the words "voyager" on them! It was about then I got a phone call and had to leave before I could ask for assistance. My question to you all is am I allowed to pull down a box and check it out? I've heard of people doing it before at other stores but I was unsure. Should I ask for help? It looks like they needed to restock all the voyagers anyway (there were barely any prime voyagers and 4 FE voyagers, buy one get one 50% off though! what a steal!) Also, if anyone knows of any popular girl toy or doll that I could buy that would be great! I plan on donating some toys to Toys for Tots and I didn't want to leave the girls out of it
Doesn't matter where to me. I say if it's on the floor it's fair game. I'd have opened up it for a looksey irregardless. It's not like you're stealing. I don't see it to be wrong at all.
Depends on the height of the shelf. It is generally frowned on for customers to grab stuff off the top of the shelves because they could get injured.
this in general but I don't see the harm if the boxes aren't stacked on top of one another and your tall enough to rich them without getting hurt. I've looked in a few myself.
Wow I did not expect this may responses so fast! Thanks y'all! But the boxes were stacked up to the ceiling so I'll probably have to ask, haha. I agree with AnAutobot1985, usually I would rather not ask for help with anything, though. the people at my local Toysrus once took twenty minutes to ring me up, only because they didn't know that having 10 separate internet explorwer windows open at the same time would slow the computer down! Who woulda thought.. haha!
Call me crazy, but one time I hoisted my then 12 year old daughter on my shoulders an had her grab a box for me off the top shelf. It had exactly what I was looking for! To this day, she remembers doing that for me. Afterwards, I took her to Friendlys Ice cream an bought her the biggest banana split she'd ever seen.
I grab them down all the time, I'm also 6'3" so I have an advantage over most people....then again, shortly after FE Prime hit my area, I found an unopened case up there, and asked someone for help since there was like 5 boxes on top. It took him about 30 seconds to get it down for me.
The employees at my TRU are usually pretty helpful. I can think of only one case where they gave me crap about pulling down a case and they still did it. If the employees aren't around and I really want to look in the box, I just grab a plastic lightsaber and push it off.
I've opened boxes, restocked pegs, and broken the box down and left it behind the video game counter. Nothing in the store states you can't, so why wouldn't you...
As a TRU company employee, we'd prefer you ask us to get it for you. Generally, we don't mind. It's part of our job description to help customers in any way we can. I realize not all employees share that sentiment though... Also, I'm not sure how TRU is handling all of the overstock for Christmas (I normally work at Babies R Us), but a lot of the time, the areas above the aisles are actually considered "backstock" bays and their contents actually scanned in and not part of the store's floor count. So, there's a chance you can mess up the store's inventory by doing this too. And, of course, as everyone else has said, if there's a chance or injuring yourself or others, definitely don't.
I own a retail store, so busting shipment comes second-hand. Its also helpful to keep a pocket knife handy for just such incidences...
I pull the boxes down all the time. There's usually signs that say it's ok to look in them just ask for help, but I never see anyone walking around helping people, so I don't wait. I got 2 FE Vehicons that way.
I should start looking up there, I honestly never even knew there were boxes up there I could look in. :1
Agreed with everyone else. If you can't reach it, ask for help. But if you can easily reach it, then I say go for it. Provided there isn't a bunch of other boxes on top of it of course. Just did that the other day myself actually. Was looking to see if the local TRU had gotten the FE voyagers yet(nothing yet, yay Alabama...*sigh*). Started to leave, but noticed an opened case of voyagers up above. Was easily able to reach it, and it turned out to be a full case of GDO's. Which was a good thing anyway because the 1 per case Hot Spot was still in it(the shelf was full of Megatron's and Powerdive's). Didn't leave empty handed after all.
I've done it several times in Tescos. A couple of times I've asked staff but usually they try to tell me that stock isn't available even though I can see it right there, so now I just get the boxes down myself since I can easily reach. If they don't want people taking the stock from there then either put the new stuff out on the display shelves or put the stock away in the stockroom where I can't see it. If I waited for the stock up on the storage shelves to actually make it to display then I'd have probably missed my chance to pick up certain figures.
Yeah having worked at TRU for a month or so they really don't like you doing it. The whole thing about a customer might get hurt and we might be sued etc etc. I can't say for all TRU's but the one I worked at really stressed this pint. I even got flak once because I left one of those large wrestling rings in the aisle not in the middle of the aisle but close to the actual shelf. Which is why the TRU's in my area never have boxes out on the shopping floor. They are always in the stock area and only get left out on the floor when restock at night occurs. That said I probably would just get someone working at the time to help. I'm just too short to reach that high.
