I'm not trying to offend anybody or start an argument or anything like that, but was the first movie ever advertised as an adaptation of G1? Just wondering

I don't think it was directly advertised as such, but it was referenced and hinted at alot. Like when they used a real life G1 Optimus Prime truck at events to promote the movie, and pretty much using all well known G1 characters.

I think the closest they got to promoting it as live-action G1 was very distant connections, like announcements that "there will be things for long-time fans to enjoy" or whatever and taglines along the lines of "the hit 80s toyline now a hollywood blockbuster!".

But no, it was never heavily promoted as being tied to the original incarnation of Transformers as opposed to another incarnation, though the end product does draw most heavily from G1.

No, Bayformers has always been it's own continuity, but there are some G1 elements seasoned about the movies.

Nope, it wasn't. The creators (director, writers, producers) did all talk about how it was influenced by G1 and would include many series staples....which of course it did.

if you have the dvd.. watch the special features.. or, if you don't have, get it, then watch the special features.

they basically explain the thoughts behind the movie.

i definitely have enjoyed the special features for each movie.. i just wished they talked about the characters, the designs, and the CGI more.

I don't ever remember it being advertised or promoted as being "G1" anything. I do remember a lot of arguments about it needing to be more G1 vs it was too much G1.

Way back in 2007 when the first film came out, there was quite a bit of chatter about them having re-used too many lines from the '86 film too.

that could've been it, i don't quite remember which line won.

they really screwed that line up in the movie too. prime says it.. then immediately gets thrown into a building lol. it definitely didn't have the same impact as it did in the '86 movie.

The movie took alot of inspiration from G1 more than any other continuity, and it actually brought the classic stuff back into the limelight, especially Bumblebee and some of the story elements, as that stuff hadn't been seen since before the unicron trilogy and the beast era.

The movieverse was actually the reason that animated had more G1 elements as well, as it was originally going to feature the original Armada characters of Hot Shot and Red Alert in place of Bumblebee and Ratchet.

But of course a flat-nosed Optimus truck was deemed wrong for the live-action movies. Who knew, eh? :)

Well, since G1 wasn't only G1, but the original, everything that's ever come out of the franchise, and anything that ever will, is an adaptation of G1. Simply using the title "Transformers" was advertising it as an adaption of G1.
