Is priming really necessary in the painting process? I get that it could help the paint not rub off or chip off, but is it absolutely necessary? I'm new to custom painting stuff so I just want to be certain in areas, I got the paint and brushes, i just want to figure out if it's necessary.

Goobertown Hobbies on Youtube did a really neat video about just this thing. Granted it's about plastic minis but it still applies. He's also a professional chemist so he has a bit of insight into these sort of things as it is.

Anyway, here's the video if you wanna give it a watch
