    Yeah, well when I saw that backflip, the animated movie was the first thing to pop in my head, to be honest. But I don't think it was an actual nod, atleast not an intended one. I'm pretty sure this is what happened:

    Michael Bay: "Guys, we need another awesome thing in that already awesome scene, so that it'll be even more awesome! I've got an awesome idea! A backflip! Now that would be totally awesome!" :bay

    I actually think that a large portion of the movie may have been influenced by the first one in some shape. Prime does die, and the backflip thing could be a homage (even though I didn't catch it.). Megatron is reborn, he works for a demonic master, he gets mad at Starscream for taking over in his absence....
