A possible new crossover movie series under work?

Photo taken from an unknown conference in China, source: Sina Visitor System

    TRANSLATION:
Movie title: "Sun Wu Kong Battles The Transformers"
    Category: 3D, Fantasy & Si-fi
Team: Spielberg, Hollywood top tier production
Story: Sun Wu Kong and the Transformers bury the hatchet, together they fight against an alien invading force and eventually save the world

FYI: Sun Wu Kong (aka The Monkey King) is one of the most known character in Chinese mythology, also the inspiration of Goku in Dragon Ball...

...... it doesn't sound real, does it?

Interesting fact: back in the 80s', when TF was a big hit in China, some publishers made a lot of crossover comics based on Transformers and other famous cartoons (such as The Smurfs, Heman, ). There were... maybe more than 10 issues(?) of those were titled "Sun Wu Kong Battles The Transformers", by various publishers.

In those days, no one in China had any concept of copyright (I mean, it's much better now), so publishers were officially doing these unofficial "fan comics" a lot.

Quite some phenomonon back then... every child from the 80s' still remembers those today.
Having that said, most fans in China heard this news were either like "Excuse me? What???" or go into rage mode "Don't you ruin TF futhermore!".

I think it's awesome that Hasbro actually approved this idea.
From my personal source, this project has been, for months, under discussions between Hasbro and a bigger film distributor in China.
I assume it's maybe still nothing solid just yet. Who knows, Hasbro loves crossovers these days...

I couldn't find mine in the moment, but you see...... Almost every 80s' kid had one.

And wait for the 'pandering to the Chinese' comments.

    Seems odd though.

Looks more like a crossover to me.

But it would be awesome as hell to see a fight, or better a team up between these two.

This would be cool but only if it's non-canon to the normal series.

That would be awesome... plus, Sun Wu Kong is already known for shouting "change" to activate his magic, so maybe he was a Transformer all along.

The Monkey King is one of my all-time favorite stories. I remember reading Journey To The West as a kid and I played around with a long stick.

The movie which came out this year looks like epic. Transformers will fit right in if true.

With it seeming like the Transformers movies are more popular in China than in the United States it does make you wonder if it wouldn't be a smart choice to do a Chinese Transformers movie instead of having all the Transformers movies imported from the United States?

10 or 20 years ago you could say no way this could be true. But with Hollywood having to adapt to a new global market there is no telling what the future might look like. I mean who would have imagined Sony and Marvel/Disney teaming up over Spider Man.

Huh. That would certainly be an odd combination.

Looks interesting. I'm keeping an open mind, as it seems like its gonna be separate from the main film continuity. Who knows, it might turn out to be better than TF5. lol

This is really weird, and a bit trippy-sounding. Totally in for it, though. What're the odds that the Monkey King is secretly a Prime(al)? :D

Given how weird, trippy, and insane Monster Hunt was and ended up as a huge hit I'd be rather disappointed if this wasn't a rather strange movie. I haven't had a chance to see The Mermaid yet but from what I understand that's another strange film that was a massive success in China.
