There have always been categories of Transformers, distinguishable by size, complexity and type. As a predominantly vintage collector for years I was very new to the whole uniform hierarchy of figures – or size class – that seem to have originated in the beast era of toys. This week I am looking at some of the deluxe class toys I’ve seen and owned (which admittedly is not very many) and pick out some of what has really impressed. Prime Wheeljack is a joy. You should get the DE version of him too. If you're looking for great deluxes Rodimus Minor from Animated and WfC Optimus and Megatrom are awesome. WfC Optimus and Megatron are my favorite builds for both characters.
Nice one Maz. Love the deluxe class and would probably ditch my mp's before my classics et al. I have to say though, if you think concept Camaro bee is the pinnacle of that particular character you might want to have a look at battle blade bumblebee from the hftd line or nitro bee from dotm. That being said I'm sure everyone has their personal faves
TFA Swindle is just aces, as is the TFP/RID Wheeljack mold (Dead End, Dark Energon Wheeljack/Slicer, and Arms Micron Wildrider are neat too).
Can't go wrong with a deluxe class figure Everyone should give the WFC Generations Optimus Prime mold a chance. Talking about awesome in an insanely awesome package mixed in with more awesome.
You can't go wrong with Prime Jacky, and amazing toy. Among Prime toys, Vehicon belongs in the discussion as well. I echo StayingInTheBox's sentiments regarding WFC Prime, an impressive Deluxe. Between Animated and CHUG, there's a number who also fit the bill: CHUG Warpath, Wheeljack, Scourge, and Cyclonus, and Animated Blurr, Lockdown, and Prowl. Generations Scourge was a toy I thought I'd hate, especially since his alt mode looked so different from his G1 space-boat. Boy was I wrong. It's an amazingly engineered toy that I'm glad to own.
Blegh. Used to have it. Puffy and ridiculous looking, with a pointlessly convoluted transform pattern. RTS G2 Prime was much more satisfying for me. But that said, WFC Megatron worked, best deluxe class iteration of that character. (I want to like the IDW mold better, but he's floppy and hollow.)
Classics Bumblebee, 2006 mold. (I have the RTS version.) Very solid toy, just about everything you could want from a G1 Bumblebee at that price point. PRID Arcee is fun and deceptively dynamic. She poses surprisingly well, especially if you have a couple of PRID Vehicons for her to decapitate and blow apart. It's not perfect, but classics Rodimus has always done it for me. I have two, 2006 and RTS, and I uses the former exclusively with the protector armor. Cyclonus is a joy. get the RTS colorscheme.
From the movie line, Sidearm Sideswipe and Topspin probably impressed me the most. Really impressed with how they hid kibble and incorporated their alt parts in bot mode, which were both accurate and beautiful in their proportions. Brilliant engineering. From the CHUGs I owned Jazz won hands down, but Wreck Gar and Drift/Blurr impressed me nearly as much. Would MP Bumblebee count as Deluxe Class?
This is a great one! The deluxe class has been a sweet spot for years. This article really highlights many of the reasons why
I'm really happy with WfC Prime myself. G2 Laser Prime from RtS isn't a slouch either though. And yeah, the only thing wrong with WfC Megatron is he's deluxe. Once you get past that, he's a hell of a figure. He is just dynamic.
