Back to the BIG-stuff after 10-years of downsizing, I've been commissioned to build an 8ft Unicron-statue! This will take a ton of work, materials & time, will be sharing WIP-updates here as I go along. Everything I've learned & used to build since 2006 is going into this beast, Unicron has always personally been the ultimate pinnacle-build-of-builds besides maybe Voltron for me, but this guy was the BIGGEST & baddest in the TF-world. I'll be using numerous reference-pics from concept-art to fan-art for inspiration & scale, as well as 3 huge printouts of Vertex-Nebula's 3D-concept, Studio-Cel's Unicron & first-movie concept-art for the side-shot measurements. He will be made out of just about everything from lumber, plywood, aluminum, PVC, ABS, styrene, Worbla, foam & various-hardware. I started the first-cuts & basic foot-structure over the weekend to have something to build-on, so here we go!

Reality & perspective set-in yesterday once I got one of the leg-panels cut & screwed. [IMG] The scale-translation between the printouts is tricky, the height is right but the width of the shins will probably narrow-down since I still have to add expanded-detail to the sides to beef them up later-on. Measurements of the shin alone on the foot is 30"x20"x13", 30lbs heavy so far. Main thing right now is to establish the frame-work for the legs & stabilize them at an angular-stance to be able to support the entire upper-body. Tons more pre-thought & trial-and-error to come. Both Unicron leg-shins cut & screwed now, finally something to build-on! [IMG][IMG] Now that I got these side-by-side for full-perspective, I'll cut & adjust the width of both a few inches to compensate for the added-paneling & detail later-on to bring the width back out to where it needs to be. The 7ft Bruticus-legs were 13" in-width, so Unicron's will naturally need to be a little wider at 8ft tall. [IMG] I discovered some major scale & measurement-discrepancies between the 2 big reference-printouts I had done, and fortunately I caught that before it was too late & made adjustments. Is there still time to amend this statue to be an actual Unicron costume? Those are some big ol’ mud stompers!

Yeah I deliberately made them extra-wide to accommodate the adjustments that I'll have to make to the width soon, will probly cut 2-3 inches off the width now that I got an actual side-by-side visual. WAY too heavy for a costume, one foot & shin is already at 30lbs :lol

As a home owner I appreciate that his shins are about 100 dollars in lumber these days.
