I believe he's referring to the ball joints on the hips. It's a common doll technique to add the ball and then have that be the main pivot/attachemnt point for the leg and waist section. MP 10 has it as well. I can't remember if Rodimus has it due to the "growing" gimmick though.

I personally really enjoy reading about the Engineers and how they approach the brand and it is very clear to see a unifying theme from each person: Utter respect and enthusiasm for the brand.  
I quite like the little tid-bits of history and background that each member mentions and how that impacts their perception of the brand and their approach to their design duties.  

What I find most exciting is the common theme that seems to be developing with the team in regards to revisiting older gimmicks such as Headmasters and Pretenders and wanting to apply modern techniques to such forms, but also, Beast Wars!
