The wars over. Sony's BluRay won. We all know this. BUT I think now is the best time to adopt HD-DVD until BluRay gets cheaper. And my reasons are below!

    1. Up Converts (Upconversion 480p/720p/1080i )
    2. Decent movies still avaliable cheap now.
    3. Players are below $100 in most cases.
    4. 7 free HD movies between now and ,arch 31st.
    5. Some movies still being released between now and end of april.
    6. Some stores placing HD-DVD;s in their bargain bins already.

And I am dead serious! I am going to be getting me one asap.

Only thing that'd get me to consider doing so is the 7 free HD-DVDs with purchase.

But as I have made very clear before, I don't give a shit about HD-DVD or Bluray....so it isn't really worth the money to me.

the way i see it, most good DVD players cost $70+. HDDVD players play standard dvd's and HD ones. So, the prices have come down enough to warrant getting one if you own a HD tv and dont want to invest in a PS3 or bluray player till prices come down.

I've supported Blu-Ray, but I actually agree. HD-DVD players are already being discounted as low as $50. That's cheaper than any decent Upconverting DVD player, and it will perform that function perfectly adequately. If you're in the market for an upconverting DVD player there's no real reason to not just go ahead and get a clearance HD-DVD player. The 7 free movies and selection of titles that aren't yet available on Blu Ray are icing on the cake.

Yeah, it stinks the format died but there is going to be a firesale on the movies. It may be a dead format, but the movies look real good.

Very tempting actually. I just wish they'd stop releasing HD-DVD exclusives already.

Six reasons why I dont think so:
    1. you can get an upconverter for $30
    2. You can get a regular DVD for a cheaper price and upconvert it
    3. HD-DVD players might be under $100 but upconverters are still around $30
    4. You get 5 free with Blueray
    5. Movies might still be released between now and April, but all Blueray movies will be available AFTER April.
    6. Bargain bins rarely have anything good, thats why they are bargain bins.

I checked out Walmart on Sunday to see if they lowered the prices of the HD-DVDs. They didn't. They were all $33.97, and I was speechless when I saw one for $39.97.

For a little more you get a far superior picture.

    See above.

You already said that. See above.

I don't think that's true anymore. I just bought a PS3 though, so I'd like to find out.

    Yeah? And?

Everything HD-DVD will eventually be liquidated. I look forward to jumping on the good stuff at a bargain.

I don't have an HDTV yet...but I might consider getting the player for that price, as I wouldn't mind the free movies.

I've had to spend $50 for a single game. A whole player and multiple movies for the same price isn't such a bad deal especially if they still play regular DVD's as my old DVD player craped out on me last week.

Yeah, the players are cheap and you can get free titles. So what? I mean, after April or whenever (soon), you won't be able to get any more movies for it. So basically, you're just limiting yourself with a finite selection. It just seems kind of financially silly to me.

if you're going to replace an already broken DVD player with one of these cut price HD-DVD ones, I don't see a huge problem with it.

You still get a functioning DVD player with some nifty extra features. And for the cut prices the US enjoys on electronics, I'd be wary before complaining about the prices

yeah 50$. I'm buying one this weekend, and The Last Star Fighter. I am going to take advantage of this. If the movies get priced down too, then I am getting some movies on it until I can afford the BR versions.
