Overall, this was a pretty light year I think. Worked out well, since it let me instead spend my budget on shelving overhauls, along with Grandus! Best MP Style 3P Toy of 2018 1) XTB Crackup 2) DX9 Gabriel 3) XTB Flipout Honorable Mentions: FT Quietus FT Dracula KFC Sting Thing (MP? Chug? Legends? I have no idea, going with MP) BadCube Red Alert / Sideswipe MT Seekers Wei Jang NE01 Megamaster Best CHUG style 3P Toy of 2018 1) MMC Stray 2) Hot Soldiers Centurion 3) I think this category is nearing death, heh. Really the only thing I'm buying here anymore is MMC's IDW style things. Best 3rd Party Giant Toy of 2018 1) DX9 Gabriel 2) 3) Didn't buy any others, heh. Although when/if other companies get around to releasing stuff they've shown, that'll change quickly. Best Company of 2018 1) XTB - Super solid releases, excellent customer service, figures coming out at a good pace once the new factory was up and running. 2) FT - While I think they're slipping, they still put out several good MP-style figures. Their sculpts and quality continue to be fire, but their engineering is just so obnoxious. When XTB is smashing you in that department, you gotta up your game. 3) MMC - While they didn't release much for me this year, I love how they've owned that IDW-style market, and continue to give me goodies for that shelf. Really looking forward to 2019 from them. Most Improved Company of 2018 1) XTB - just not even a question. New factory came out, all of a sudden quality and finish of the toys is super high grade, FT-level stuff. The engineering is wonderful. They've always had great sculpts, but this year they really brought it all home to where they're far and away the company I look forward to releases from. 2) Badcube - After improving with their latest round of minibots, they came out and did Sideswipe and Red Alert better than Takara. Engineering on the two was great, but not horrible either, and the figures are sturdy. They also went a long way to make each of them cartoon accurate without fake wheels and such. Great releases. I'm curious what they'll do next in the MP game. 3) Wei Jang - from a KO company to making their own original product. Megamaster is a fun toy, with some cool ideas in it. I think 2019 is going to be much bigger for 3P MP, as the combiners get into full swing. KFC had no major releases that I know of - just Sting Thing, I think? And I think they're reissuing Crash Hog or something? So while 2018 was light, I think 2019 is going to be much more expensive. XTB's new factory is up and churning out stuff now. I think "FT vs the world" continues to be an interesting drama, where any time any company releases anything, FT shows gray protos soon after. FT has to start releasing actual toys of this stuff at some point though, lol. It used to work to "stop" people buying other things, but I think those days are nearing an end if they don't start actually putting out. I hope 2019 sees KFC return to form too, using the new factories. I'm stoked for the revealed PMOP, and I hope to see movement on Buster / Hydra as well.
