Oh man drama sucks

 

Only a few months into the legends game and I'm already facing a collection crisis. I've been going all-in and exclusive on Magic Square's offerings because:

1) G1
2) They're well-regarded and turned out to be a lot of fun to handle
3) I was able to get in on the ground floor (no running around paying top dollar on the secondary market to catch up on old releases)

All was fine and dandy, but then I got this guy and now I'm conflicted:



So much personality in this little guy! I enjoy MS's engineering and transformations, but their sculpts are perhaps a bit too workmanlike. Definitely appreciating how IF's exaggerated styling helps the character shine through.

Might end up switching teams....

 

Hah! He was the figure to bring me back to IF. They make some really fun figures. While MS is definitely hitting that toon mini MP look, IF continues to make wonderful versions of characters while hitting that Classics style sweet spot! I love all the detail and personality they can cram in such a small figure

 

You're not alone. I was evading Iron Factory for the longest time. G1 was my thing. I was happy with my Magic Square figures. Then I saw news of Iron Factory Megatron. I caved. I have 12 IF figures now and I only started last January. They're all so cool. Rushbeat is so photogenic. Constantly thinking of letting go of my MPs

Exactly. Imagine the potential if they worked on a bigger scale

 

I wish I could get rid of all my CHUG sometimes but it's a big pain in the butt to sell off and I have no space for it all. The struggle is REAL!

Oh yeah definitely. Perhaps like Planet X figures. But I think i get my moneys worth with the detail of Iron Factory

 

No reason to stop collecting MS, just get the IF figs you like to go along with them! Personally, I actually have something from just about ALL of the 3p Legends companies along with Has/Tak; they all have something that I like and I just find ways to fit them into my collection. Even when I get multiples of the same character from different companies, they all bring something interesting to the table. By doing this I feel that I have a pretty comprehensive and extensive collection, with most of the classic G1 characters represented in this delightfully small scale. And, I can even fit most of them on my shelf together! I usually end up giving my character doubles to my brothers and friends and their kids as gifts, keeping them "in the family"...

Last but not least, I feel like I am supporting these companies by buying their products; the more units these groups move the better chances of them putting out more figures to help me complete my collection! This INCLUDES Hasbro/Takara. I find that Combiner Wars Broadside goes great with my Legends collection; Broadside is supposed to be HUGE... But the Titans Return Autobot and Decepticon Clones, as well as the Duocons, slide right into my legends displays.

In Summation, I suggest that you just get the FIGURES you like, brand loyalty should be Secondary to Transformers fandom...

...Yes I realize that statement is bit of a contradiction in terms...

 

I'm lucky in that I don't care if the styles clash, I buy whichever I feel looks best

I have a pretty extensive Legends/Legends+ collection now, and not a single one is Magic Square (although I have Huffer on my "to get" list, he'll be the first and so far only one I'm interested in getting). They just don't scale with the rest of my stuff. I do also collect IF but for the most part they blend in with everything else just fine. Just goes to show how lucky we are to have so many great options on the table.
