Most 3rd party folks are from the G1 era & we remember watching the cartoon like it was yesterday (forget everything else jk).

I will be 39 in late 2017. TF G1 MP, Star Wars, DBZ & X-Men make me forget that I am old :)

    38. I started with a KO of Classics Nemesis Prime

I know a lot of people rip on the FoC figs, but that's what got me collecting. FoC Bruticus with the Echo kit. Then Generations S2 came out, and I saw Orion Pax and I was hooked.

The generation 1 which most of saw the cartoon as a kid wins the popular vote :)  by 6%.

36 here, wasn't a fan of the cartoon growing up, mainly because it was hard to find episodes to watch in UK without satellite, but the comic was my life and the movie was my favorite film for years, edging out Star Wars.

Like many others here sold off my collection as a teen. Would occasionally pick up the odd toy here and there whilst living in France but really got into things when I moved to the USA in 2012.

1st third party was Soar, always wanted Swoop as a kid and this one looked so awesome I had to have it. I blame Sixo ;)

    37. Started collecting with Beast Wars so like, 20 years ago. First 3rd Party toy was Battle Rollar or City Commander. Rollar I think. Pointy. Fragile. Standard :lol

    Just turned 41.

Started collecting MP's in July 2016. My first 3P was Boost. Loved it, hated it, now love it again.

However my first TF was Optimus Prime back in 1984. I had a few Diaclones too because my parents went to Asia a lot. I eventually had all the 1984-1985 characters and stopped collecting midway through 1986 when I didn't care for the new characters anymore.

I just voted, soon to be 44.... Thanks for reminding me how old I am.

Been collecting MP SOC SHF and all manner of stuff since the early 90's.
My MP 3rd party collecting started with FT Scoria.

The bell curve type pattern we see forming in the results is why this hobby can support so many manufacturers of such (relatively) low volume products and an average price (at the North American retailers, which is post distributor markup) of probably close to $90 per figure. There is a lot of disposable income when your target audience averages somewhere around 35 years of age vs something targeted to or primarily consumed by teenagers, which is what makes this a viable market despite being what might generally be considered somewhat of a specialty product.

    I'm in 4 0 club.

    1. started around about mid 2012, I think. Always tried to keep up via comics and this web site but didn't get into the toy collecting until years after classics came out.
    2. first 3rd item I got was that Fansproject DIA Commander set - and down the rabbit hole I went.

32 as of 8 minutes ago (or however long it takes me to finish this post) central time. Been into transformers since I can remember. Always said I would start collecting at some point, but didn't really start until July of this year right after I played Transformers Devastation. It became a train wreck right after that. just went looking for a devastator by hasbro and....well you'll see below.....

First purchase: Went full bore and got Toyworld G2 Devastator (all 6. Still don't have it yet). Have several car bots that I leave it alt mode just to see the reaction on people's faces when they realize what they really are. Maybe going about 2 a month right now.

Turned 44 in December. First 3P was MakeToys Green Giant in 2013, second was Fans Toys Quakewave.
Up to 35 TT and 3P MP Transformers now (counting ToyWorld Devastator as 1).

36-I sold my original transformers at garage sales. I got into collecting transformers when the classics came out in 06-07 but then got out of it until my son was born in 2011. It's been a steady slide from CHUG to MP to 3P to collecting G1 and G2 as well. CHUG is my 1st love because that's what got me into collecting and what I can enjoy the most with my kids but I love the way 3P and MP look too.

Started collecting/buying my own tfs in 2000.
Started 3rd party with fp city commander armor 1st run, and I thought that was expensive for what it was at the time...(but I had to have it, just like all the tfs I buy now)
I was on the seibertron forums briefly until they stopped front-paging 3p stuff, then jumped over here for awhile as a lurker before joining.

20 years old. I started with the unicron trilogy and reruns/dvds and vhs of beast wars and G1. My first 3P was fansproject warbot defender if I'm remembering correctly.

Couple months shy of 31, I grew up watching reruns of G1 and playing with my G2s. I stopped after Beast Wars and then the 2007 movie got me back into collecting. The release of MP Prowl got me into the MP market and then the release of Scoria got me on the slippery slope of 3rd party figures.

    1. when did u start collecting? For how long?

I was around since day 1 as a child, fell out of it as a teen / my 20s then I discovered Alternators around 2005-ish and those guys really got me back into collecting. Soon I was collecting Alts, G1, StarWars, and when the GI Joe 25th A line hit, I knew I'd probably be doing this for the rest of my life! Now I'm mostly just doing MP / 3P MP / MOTUC / and video games.

    2. First 3rd party toy that started off your collection?

I bought some KFC cassettes (Their BeastBox) and was NOT impressed. Latter, I took a chance on DX-9s Invisible and instantly feel in love with it, I've been hooked ever since!
