I used to hate him back when I first took the plunge.

But at $99.00... and after figuring out the heel spurs, I've come to an accord with Ditka.

DX9's Chigurh is the real mess though... I mean, look at his legs, face... everything.

    IMG_20181013_181232~2.jpg

Chigurh can't even give Dynastron a proper salute.

    IMG_20180818_135449~2.jpg

But Rumble really likes Ditka's tank mode... or is that Frenzy. I can never keep them straight.

    IMG_20180819_161137~2.jpg

Ditka's flight stand is scary though... I have horror stories about that and will never do this again...

    IMG_20181005_140532~2.jpg

Anyhoo... back to work for me.

Ditka is a wonderful figure and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. He looks great in all three modes - bot mode is spot on, tank mode is just the right blend of G1 (with the false jet part on the front) and real world with all the cool details, opening hatches, the little launchers, etc. for my tastes, and the plane mode is.... well he's got a plane mode. It's a triple changer: of course one mode is going to have to be sacrificed for the whole, but the plane still isn't bad. It references the cartoon and toy design pretty well and ... yeah the plane is a little silly looking. His transformation is pleasant enough that he's one of the ones I reach for when I want to transform a few of my figures back and forth.

My only real gripe with Ditka is he's so top heavy that it's difficult to balance him in any poses other than standing at attention. I gave him non-slip pads on the bottom of his feet and I pose him with the heel spurs in high heel mode which helps a lot but I still won't have him doing any heavy leaning. His articulation is also a little hindered in the shoulder area but that's at least partly due to Blitzwing's weird should guard design. It does suck though that, if you collapse the tank treads in behind his shoulders in bot mode, it really gets in the way of his arms moving at all.

Tank treads collapsed - correct/accurate transformation but hinders arm movement.

@Necrobot's picture with the treads mistransformed but the arms unhindered. This is how I keep mine as well.

Yeah he just loses me on a lot of things. Like the altmodes being both kinda ugly when neither should really be. And that backpack just causes of problems and is just awful to me. Also the colours make me wanna vomit most of the time. I was much more into the toy styled deco that he had in that pre release version.

Fair enough. I was bluffing when I said I'd fight. I agree that the jet mode is pretty ugly. It's reasonably accurate and all that but I'd still never display him like that. I really like the tank mode but I can see how it might not be your cup of tea - it's not accurate to a real world tank (I mean I think it kind of is but I don't know what model, but the raised area on the front homaging the cartoon and the jet engines in the back definitely aren't accurate). Funny thing about that false fuselage on the front of the tank - I recall reading somewhere that it's actually supposed to be the back of the tank on the g1 toy but the animators misunderstood and turned it around. Anyway, I love the tank mode despite it's inaccuracies and I think actually I love it because of its inaccuracies - they just come out looking cool. And yeah, the color isn't necessarily accurate either but it looks more realistic to me than the brighter cartoon colors would be on a tank. Since I like my MP figures to be the cartoon characters but in the real world, that really appeals to me.

But yeah, I can see how he might not be for everybody. It just means you're wrong and that's ok.

How good are the tolerances on them? I’ve been wanting some.

Tolerances? They don't really get stuck or anything if that's what you mean. The base of the thumb can be limited but otherwise they move just fine. They don't always have the most secure grip on the figures' weapons although that varies. The only aftermarket hands I have are Ratchet, Ironhide, mp10, OSKO Grimlock (Delta Magnus hands with a 3d printed adapter), Soundwave, and Ultra Magnus. I may get some for my seekers eventually but I don't plan on doing the carbots - at their size they don't really need them and the KFC carbot hands are kind of big on them anyway. I also have Ditka, Transistor, Crash Hog, Andras, and Eligos who came with KFC style hands and I used to have Apollyon too. Also Quakeblast has the same style of hand but Cloud9 doesn't have any affiliation with KFC that I know of.

Optimus' hand kit is the worst of the bunch - the texture is different from mp10's plastic and the gun (included with the hands) doesn't really peg in well at all. Ratchet, Ironhide, Soundwave and Magnus do just fine holding their weapons with their upgraded hands. Andras, Ditka, and Crash Hog don't have the best grip on their weapons though they'll hold just fine if you don't bump them too hard. Eligos, Transistor, and Appolyon grip their weapons just fine though.

I also have Sovereign and the first two Zeta Aerialbots who have articulated hands but they're not as nice as KFC. They do have really good grip strength though.

If, by tolerances, you mean how well they can transform, mp10 is a little snug squeezing his hands in but everybody else works fine.

@Digger Here's some hand shots of my figures that have KFC upgrade hands and the KFC/XTB figures that have articulated hands.

I mean tolerance as in how are the joints in between the fingers. Are they really lose? Are they too stiff?
    Damn those look good.

Ah, right. Yeah, they're mostly on the loose side. You get the fingers posed the way you like them and just brushing against them will move them. Like I said, most can grip their weapons ok, but the ones where the weapon peg doesn't work (mp10 for example) have a tenuous grasp.

Yeah see I don’t like that you just brush them. That just looses quality points for me. A peg and hole you can fix. But loose fingers are hard to do.
