So in all honesty, those who have seen it, would you say it's worth the leap to 3D? Did 3D add anything in your opinion? How about those who saw imax 3D? And to those who saw 2D, do you wish you had seen 3D/will you be seeing 3D? It may seem like a shallow/obvious question, but some movies gain a lot by being in 3D and some really don't. I thought 3D added a lot to, say, Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, and Prometheus. I saw AOE in 3D and I thought the opening title with the ships way out of focus and the big letters REALLY floating out there looked great, but after that it didn't add a lot to the movie. A little dimension here and there, but I could see it again in 2D.
The IMAX 3D scenes were impressive. Some of the best I've seen since Prometheus, which I still think is the best 3D film I've seen.
In (true) IMAX there were some scenes that really took advantage of the full screen size. In fact a huge portion of the film was full-screen. The robots looked towering. There were also some close-up shots of robot faces like Lockdown's that looked terrific with the added detail. The scenes in Lockdown's ship also come to mind; there was some amazing effect there.
I just sat down for a D-Box showing. The screen is normal size. After last night's IMAX, damn does it look tiny. Hoping the vibrating/moving seat makes up for it.
I haven't bothered with 3D since Avatar. I saw AoE in 2D and it was great, except for some the ******ed slow motion scenes, which probably looked a lot better in 3D.
Took my 12 year old nephew to see it in IMax 3D today. I've seen all the tf movies in IMax at some point or other ( Had to go all the way to Cincinnati after seeing tf1 on regular screen first, now we have a more conveniently located IMax in Dayton). My nephew about crapped his pants as we walked in and he started seeing that screen tower upwards, he's never seen an Imax or a 3D movie, poor kid. lol. He thought it was the coolest shit ever. So my vote is Imax 3D.
