So after a few half completed projects (I will finish that warpath one day) I stumbled across this still from transformers victory and was immediately enthused to see if I could make a figure based off this design
    Super Ginrai.jpg

But before I can make the super, I gotta make the Ginrai. Here's the first prototype. Due to an oversight in the model not all the joints fit together quite right meaning he can't transform. I also think I will redesign the torso a little, and the leg section needs a bit of modification, but I'm pretty close to complete on Ginrai and will soon move on to the trailer. Also I'll redesign the head, but that comes last because frankly heads are stupid hard.

I'm waiting on some tools that should make assembly easier before printing a version two, and anyway I really want to get started on the super mode. But here are some renders of the truck mode and robot mode in the meantime.

I'm aiming to have a full Ginrai assembled next weekend, with at least the chest of the super mode designed by then. Hope you like what you see, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

    Great start.

What are you using for “pins” for the moving hinge joints (@ front and hip skirts)? And what hole size are you printing them at?
    Thanks in advance:)

Are you printing the pin hole smaller than the paperclip or the relatively the same size?
    Thanks

Larger. The paperclip is 0.8mm diameter but given I had to tweak a lot of things on my 3d printer to get solid prints tiny details get over extruded slightly. This way they're easy enough to insert but tight enough to form decent joints

I'm not sure if I should admit how long I just sat at my desk here at work with my mouth hanging open. This is the EXACT style I've been wanting from a Ginrai since forever and a half ago!

thanks man, the hands were a bitch to sculpt but I'm really happy with them. The head, not so much, but I'll revisit that last

If you don't mind, what kind of printer do you use? If you don't want to broadcast that on the internet, feel free to pm me. (or not, I understand if you want to keep that to yourself :) )

Sorry to nitpick but Ginrai's faceplate is usually more rounded than the G1 Toon Prime face you've got going on... Other than that, this is pretty sweet looking so far!
