Hey everyone! This thread will cover the start to finish for the creation of a 3D printed G1 Optimus Prime inspired figure. Much like my Articulated version. For real time updates on the project you can follow my Twitter. here’s the progress I have so far on the back pieces.
Good to hear! It’ll be completely interchangeable, no need for modification other than possible painting. As different g1 Optimus prime iterations have different shades of red and blue. But we’ll see as the project progresses
Update: back pieces that hold the seats/matrix chamber are almost done. Just need to add the details on the sides
Update: the back of the torso piece is done, not adding details until I see how the first print is. Also made both shoulder joints with a mushroom peg
What printer, specifications and material are you using? The print looks so clean, such that I thought it was moulded plastic for a second
if you are referring to this it’s a white Optimus Prime piece. I’m measuring the parts and using them for reference as I’m recreating them in the program.
Unfortunately I don’t have the printer set up yet, so I haven’t ran tests on how well it will all print
Update: hey everyone. I’ve kinda made a big decision with this upgrade kit and I hope everyone won’t be mad. I’ve decided to make this it’s own figure instead of an upgrade. Since I’m basically remaking most of the g1 primes parts and modifying them, the only parts I haven’t planned on modeling are the legs and chest, but now I do plan on it. That being said, this figure when completed will be inspired by the G1 Optimus toy with a lot of Freightliner mixed in too. Anyway here’s some progress on the arm parts
Now may be a good time to revisit this post I made in your thread. Heavy/Scratch: - Articulated Generation One Optimus Prime
