Optimus has to be next, right? I hope this line eventually makes all three movie versions but the newest G1 design has to be first.
Was excited until I realized it doesn't transform. Blech. Non-transforming should be in the title for this stuff.
Now that's interesting--that art fixes most of the errors I noted in the markings----so who made all the changes that cause it to be wrong? This artwork is a proper Navy Phantom, vs the model (and I believe on-screen) being an impossible mish-mash of Air Force and Navy (and upside down) markings.
Its a beautiful model but I never understood paying a tonne of money for a Transformer.....that doesnt do just that. Surely if you are dropping megabucks then you want a transformer that transforms right?
Nope. I'm in it for screen accuracy, beautiful paint job, die-cast build and articulation. It's a display piece, not a toy. Same has hanging an art print of Optimus on the wall, it doesn't transform either but I still like to look at it.
We can only hope! However I'm sure we'll see Shatter and Dropkick before we see Soundwave or Shockwave.
I could see Prime after Blitzwing, then we'll see Dropkick and Shatter and maybe by the time all of those have hit the market we might be in the marketing stage of the next Transformers flim and will start getting main characters from whatever that movie ends up being based around. But to start things off I imagine will be be characters that were the stars of Bumblebee. Plus that will give the studio more time to refine the designs for Soundwave, Shockwave, ect to their definitive movie look.
Some are more interested in a depiction of a character, and if it also transforms that's a fun bonus. Over the past few years I've transitioned to this. I don't really sit there and play with them anymore. I choose a mode, then pose them for display and appreciation. So it's important to me that they display well. So in this case, I want to display a detailed and accurate depiction of this character from Bumblebee, so a version like this that does not compromise the character for the vehicle mode is ideal. It literally looks exactly like the character, no cheats or concessions and with more detail than you'd ever find elsewhere. If 3A's figure transformed it would inevitably look worse. I still do pick up some toys to play around with occasionally rather than to display (they're fun), but they've become the minority. I prioritize good looking robot modes. Do I ever think that these types of static figures should become the norm and outnumber the regular transformers? No, never. That would suck the fun and purpose out of it from its primary audience. But I'm not the primary audience, I'm a 30 something man child who loves robots so having these types of higher end collectibles on the side for people like me is great and appreciated. And if 3A keeps releasing figures like this in the DLX line I'm going to go broke because I want them all.
I can see them easily doing MP series out of the Seekers both Earth and Cybertronian mode. Even good Voyager/Leader Class. Looking forward to that day.
