The chest parts disconnect easily. it snaps right back on, too. If you want to risk it, press on the front of the plastic, and try to push it back on. It's flexible that you'll be able to push that far without damaging the box, but I have no idea if that will mess with the tape.

I don't especially want a third Unicron after the Armada and Takara 2010 versions, but the shiny beckons to me. ...As soon as Amazon has them back in stock.

Any problems with the shells in planet mode? On my Takara one, they don't really want to close up properly, even if I manage it the slightest movement pops it apart again, plus the two pegs in front under the jaws don't reach the corresponding holes on the feet at all. It almost seems like the new head doesn't provide enough clearance, though when I compare it to the Armada one it sure looks like it's not any larger.

It's a crime that G1 Unicron never went beyond the prototype stage.

guess he came up in value pretty quick.

Not really. Amazon themselves are out of the stock for the moment at least and people are just fishing.

Seems a bit soon for Amazon to be out of this once and for all.

Notice that the prototype is more spherical than the current Unicron, I wonder why Hasbro did not make the current Unicron more sphere-like?

exactly, if anything, having that prototype made actually shows how horrible it was to even attempt making him that shape.

 

I also have a similar issue with the "Pegs on the shell" not connecting to "pegs on the feet" on my Amazon Unicron as in the below pic (have yet to check my Takara Unicron on that...that has a different issue):

I'd forgotten how awful that Unicron prototype really is. 

 

It really is awful. Like, "I'm not surprised at all that Hasbro never released it" awful.

What is surprising though is that Hasbro didn't destroy that horrid abortion of a toy.

Even more surprising is that more than one exists.

 

Well I spoke too soon. I ended up with two of the same ring. If you are looking at Unicrons maw head on I need the ring to your right. I guess I got two left ones. If anyone has two rights please let me know and we can trade.

 

I'm glad they kept it around. It's a neat bit of TF history. I just wish the BW Neo prototype would pop up occasionally.

And yeah, it is a simple fatass, but when you keep in mind when it was made, it's actually not that bad. Looks like it could have made a fun toy, especially with the voice chip.
