Simple, which one would you choose if you could only go with one? I'd go with the 2010 version since it has a superior paint job and looks much brighter than the Amazon version which was overdone in paint job and detail and looks awful with the darkened colors.
I'm VERY happy with my Amazon Unicron... Great massive Transformer! This is the figure we should have gotten back in 86...
On hand Amazon Unicron looks even better on hand. The blue-ish gray in pics isn't as strong a blue when you see it in person, but enough to differentiate it from the silvery gray on the body. All in all for 60$ he's a very nice redeco.
Amazon. Cheaper, more accurate. I'm not gonna pay $130+ for a mold that I barely even touch. I barely even fiddle with my Armada one. I just want the Amazon one for a G1 looking Unicron and that's it.
Thats exactly what I am going to do as well is stick with my original armada. I think the 2010 is pretty cool looking but its the same mold as all the rest of them.
either one with the new head mold rocks vs the armada headed one. I have both...and like both for different reasons (takara one is more G1 themed...) the amazon one kicks massive ass for costing only $59....and the colors aren't that garish either...
It's the kind of shitting on something that just doesn't stop. Everytime I look a them next to each other on my shelf, it's like, "Yep: Still goin'!". What's always fucked up about the thread is that when someone simply asks, "What looks better", which is blatantly straight-forward... cost always gets brought up. The amount of money something costs doesn't change the colors or molding of a toy. I'd even understand if it were, "Which toy justifies the price more" or something, but "which one looks better" shouldn't have it be a factor.
Amazon. Robot modes are negligible, they basically come down to if you like silver or white, or shiny orange over non-shiny orange. But Takara-Tomy completely failed at that planet mode. They got the polar colors wrong (they're supposed to be white or silver, not darker than the rest of the planet), they got the mouth color wrong (supposed to be solid orange, 2010 has a gap in the orange between the outer mouth-ring and the "teeth") and most importantly, they completely ignored the orange stripe Unicron has down the center of his planet mode. It's a major detail, and there's absolutely no excuse for it being left out. Amazon version got the proper polar colors, got the proper solid orange mouth, and hell yes, they remembered the stripe. Price doesn't matter for me. 2010 version completely fails at representing the character in planet mode. amazon version succeeds at representing the character in both modes. Clear win. I do not understand how the people who say the 2010 version can completely overlook the mode he spent most of the movie in.
Having both, I find the Amazon one to be the better looking version, especially for G1 accuracy. Whoever says 2010 is Has G1 accurate colors has either never seen the movie, or does not remember Unicron's colors very well. If you disagree, post an unaltered screenshot showing otherwise. He wasn't creamsicle orange, he was the same orange as on the Amazon version. His color placement may not be identical, but the colors used ate far more accurate than the 2010 version. From seeing photos, I thought 2010 would be the better one, but in hand, Amazon is soooooooo much better looking. -Silvershot
I like how the question is worded: "Do you like the super cool 2010 one or the stupid Amazon one"? It's a matter of taste, there is no answer. All I can say is I passed on the mold the first two times because I hated how it looked, passed on it the third time because I hated the price (plus I wasn't aware of it until it was already on the secondary market), and bit the fourth time because it was a compromise. I have never seen 2010 in person, but I find Amazon to be more pleasing in photos. I like the bronzier orange better on Amazon but the greyer grey on 2010- but I don't hate the orange or grey on either one. I like the panel lining on 2010 but the planet-mode deco on Amazon. It is very possible that I would feel differently if I were face to face with a 2010, but unlikely so much that I'd go through the trouble of buying it and unloading the one I have now. I feel that way about most takara coloring- I can't tell if I like the colors better of if it just seems fancier because it's more expensive and/or shiny. If price were no consideration at all, I honestly think I'd just pick one and be happy either way.
I think it was said best by several ppl in the other similar topic thread: 2010 = better G1 representation of bot mode Amazon = better G1 representation of planet mode I skipped all the pre-2010 unicrons without thinking twice, none of them brought a sense of nostalgia to the movie Unicron I loved as a kid. 2010 Unicron did it for me, especially in robot mode and I picked up 2010 for $120. I think the 2010 colors are worth 2x the price as the Amazon version. But I also recently picked up the Amazon version and he's most likely going to be permanently in planet mode on a Throne of Chaos stand. If money is an issue and you can't find 2010 for around $100-120 mark, getting a Amazon version is not going to cause any regrets - he's a perfectly good version. I don't think 2010 is worth $200 ... yet (I say 'yet' because I'm sure people 20 years ago didn't think Fort Maximus was going to be worth $1500+) Otherwise like some of us here who are financially fortunate, we opted to go and pick up both 2010 and Amazon.
