Anyone here going to the 2009 JoeCon in Kansas City this year?

I am debating going due to it only being 4 hours away. But I don't know too many Joe fans, or JoeCon attendees.

I posted over at HISSTank too, but still don't see many people from there planning on going either.

    So any TFW peeps going?

Wow....There's like 0 interest everywhere. I thought there were way more Joe fans out there.

The set for the 3 3/4" collectors is a Crimson Strike Team set (like the 2002 set) redone with the 25th anniversary molds. Since I couldn't make the 2002 Con and REALLY wanted that set, I really want to try for this one.

I overheard the FP guy talking about Joecon at the info booth at Botcon. He was saying that over the last couple of years the number of sets they sold has dropped off. IIRC he said they only ordered 500 of the 3 3/4" sets and that last year they were planning to order 750, but dropped the order to 600.

You should try hisstank, if you dont already post there. I went to the 07 Joecon in ATL, it was alot more muted than botcon, much less people, less uhh...colorful people...I was disappointed, and would not attend another, unless it was in my back yard.

I did get a non attending 09 set

    Yep already did that:

    JoeCon 2009 - Who's Going? - HissTank.com - G.I. Joe

Just trying to find potential roomies from any board where I know people.

It does seem from the responses here and on Hisstank that people aren't as ramped up for JoeCon than they get for BotCon. It's a little unfortunate. But with it being in the same state I figured I should try to make it, especially with such an awesome set. But I may just have to do the non-attending as well. :(

Alright I am officially going now.

Some guys from CobraIsland and Tristate Vipers were kind enough to take me in for the weekend.

My pre-registration is now faxed in, so I am ready!

Quite excited to be attending my first JoeCon.

I would go but I am going out of town until the 15th. I may try to go for part of the day on the 15th though. I haven't decided yet. I live in the KC area so going isn't a huge issue.

I'm a member of HISS Tank as well, and would you believe that next year's JoeCon location has already been announced???!!! It's in Providence, RI.

Why the hell can't Fun Pub usually do this for BotCon locations?

They did do that when BotCon was in Providence. I do not know why everyone forgets that.

In 2006 when BotCon was in Lexington, KY, during the awards dinner they told us that BotCon 2007 would be in Providence and gave us the dates. All the club did in this case was the exact same thing they did in 2006 when they announced it.

    Why?

    [AFAIK]
Because the conventions in Providence are the only one's that they know that well in advance because Hasbro actually subsidizes a bit of the cost to put the convention in their backyard. Otherwise they pick a few places where they would like it, and then spend a bit of time working out the details on pricing, tours, and such and see what would be the prime location from that.

Besides the Providence announcements for both BotCon and JoeCon, they never tell you the location of next year's con at the current con. So no there isn't some JoeCon special treatment in this case.[/AFAIK]

So in 2007 BotCon was in Providence, JoeCon was in Atlanta. I theorize they switch places in 2010: JoeCon in Providence, BotCon in Atlanta.

Next year's JoeCon: April 28th through May 2nd in Providence, RI

So when's BotCon? If it's between JoeCon and SDCC, it'll be a tight fit. Earlier than JoeCon doesn't make much sense to advertise anything -- while late summer or fall would tie in nicely to promoting the next TF cartoon.

Stay tuned for more news at the next JoeCon.

I did get my own paratrooper figure -- and it's my first 12" -- and a crimson helicopter. Also picked up a medic during (Botcon) Bingo. ;)

Hellz, yeah! That would be a dream come true! And I'd only have to drive 45 minutes to get there too!

I tried going to JoeCon when it was in ATL, but it wasn't open to the public for Saturday or Sunday.:wtf:  Why the HELL would you not open a convention to the public for the weekend? A rep told me over the phone it was open only to pre-registered members, and I asked if they knew how much money they were losing by not opening it up to the public. That made it a waste that it was advertised locally. I felt really bad for people who didn't call ahead like I did and were turned away at the door.
