1975 written by Terry Nation of Dr. Who fame.

Chinese super-flu breaks out, spreads across the world at airports, within a few weeks 99% of the population is dead and the random survivors are trying figure out how to live without modern civilization. Spends 4 seasons exploring the different political and economic systems and how little we know as individuals for survival.

Basically The Walking Dead without zombies, or Day of the Triffids without Triffids.

    Bonus: Sorta topical too.

Anyone else ever watch this? Low budget and slow, but miles better than modern PC ADD TV to me.

Is that Big Finish based on the 1975 series or the REALLY BAD remake? I have listened to a lot of Doctor Who and Tomorrow People from Big Finish.

It seems to be set concurrently with the 1975 series, with some of the series actors reprising their rolls, but it's stories that take place off camera. Each "series" is four half-hour episodes.

I have a new thing listen to at work! Thanks.

Listened to the first part of the audio episodes today. Pretty good, but a few small quibbles.

    1. Big Finish has a bad habit of portraying Americans as either country hayseeds or pushy loud mouths. Well, in this case they had a pushy lady lawyer loud mouth as one character. Very annoying.

    2. In the original series everyone who got sick eventually died. Only the people totally immune survived. Those people never got sick. Well, in this story they had people who got sick and got better. That isn't how the disease worked.

Also they didn't stray much from the original series. It's still set in the UK during the events of the pilot episode. With it just being an audio drama they had potential to go ANYWHERE. Instead they kept the new characters near the old ones in location and setting.

Just finished the first four series on Big Finish. Series 1-2 took place during the pilot.

Series 3-4 had Greg, Jenny and Abby from the 1975 series reprise their rolls, plus some Doctor Who actors voicing new characters. Took place right after the flood episode.

New link to the 1975 pilot.

Link to the preview of the remake series.

One of the differences between the original series and the remake is the new one has a large number of people who were never exposed to the disease, now they have to live separately from those who were exposed, and are now carriers. So we have two separate survivor groups, one exposed, one unexposed. The unexposed are mostly government officials who went into isolation when the disease broke out.
